For the most part, is a fairly linear adventure that doesn't ask you to go off the beaten path and search things out very much, making it a fairly easy journey from beginning to end. However, there are a few areas towards the end of the game that open thing💞s up a bit.

One such quest can be found in Monstro Town, an area that you're going to want to get familiar with if you ever plan on faꦕcing Culex after beating the main quest. Let's not get too ahead of ourselves, though, as right now all we need to do is sleep in a bed and start a fairly simple scavenger hunt ไfor a helpful item.

Updated November 25, 2023: We've added a version of this guide, so you can find each one of these invisible flags.

How To Start The Three Musty Fears Quest

To find the bed you need to sleep in, head to the door in Monstro Town pictured above that's just below a set of stairs. Once you enter this room, interact with the mushroom in the corner to let Mario get some well-earned rest. As he sleeps, the Three Musty Fears will float over him and give him a new side quest, where they 🅷ask him to find three flags that they've hidden across 𒀰the world.

Each ghost will give you a hint as to where they've hidden their flag. The Greaper will say that they've hidden their flag "behind a wooden flower". Then the Dry Bones will say that they've hidden their flag "under a green bed". Finally, the Boo will say that they've hidden their flag between "the letter O and A".

Once the Three Musty Fears have given their clues and left, Mario will w🐠ake up and you can set off to start finding the flags and complete the quest.

Although the Greaper gives the clue to their flag location first, we're going to start off with the Dry Bones flag as it's a straight path forward on the map from there.

How To Find The Dry Bones Flag

The first flag we're going to be looking for can be found right where our adventure began - at Mario's Pad. Go here and then go inside his house to see the green bed that the Dry Bones was on about. Pressing A at the foot of the bed will award you the "Dry Bones Flag".

How To Find The Boo Flag

Next up, we need to head towards Yo'ster Isle, an optional location in the game that can be ღcompletely missed if you don't know where to go. If you do, however, then head to the island and go towards the "Goal" sign at the end of the race track. Press A when you're stood between O and A and you'll get the🎐 Boo Flag.

How To Find The Greaper Flag

The final leg in our scavenger hunt can be found at Rose Town. Head here and then look behind the woodenജ flower sign that's directly ahead of you as you enter 🐈and you'll get the Greaper Flag.

What Do You Get For Completing The Three Musty Fears

Super Mario RPG's Ghost Medal.

Once you've collected all three flags, head back to the bed in Monstro Town and go to sleep once more. The Three Musty Fears will thank you for playing their game and then award you with the Ghost Medal, which will be automatically equipped as soon as Mario wakes up. It's a pretty handy tool to have, too, as it doubles your defence during battles.
