But Super Mario Bros. Wonder also has Standees. On the surface, these collectibles might seem like mere padding. They actually do serve a tangible purpose, given you're playing in a particular way. Here, we'll talk shop on what Standees are, whether you should prioritize them, and more.

Random Encounters

You can purchase Standee Surprises at Poplin Shops scattered across Super Mario Bros. Wonder's seven worlds. Poplin Shops will always sell a variety of goods, from 1-Up Mushroom bundles and Power-Ups to "!" Blocks and Wonder Seeds, but they'll usually have a limitless stock of Standee Surprises as well.

As with everything else in Poplin Shops, you'll purchase these using Flower Coins - those purple coins you'll keep running into throughout stages. When you purchase a Standee Surprise, you'll receive a random Standee out of well over 100. They're all modeled after playable characters, with plenty of variations in stance and expression. Think of them as collectible trophies of sorts, and just know that collecting them all means spending tons of Flower Coins. Thankfully, you can't draw the same Standee twice!

How Much Should You Care?

The answer to this question is going to range from player to player. First, if you're the sort of gamer who enjoys filling up on every collectible simply for the fun of it, you'll have a blast gathering Standees. They're really quite charming, even if they're unfortunately limited to the one core concept (characters in various, well, standing positions).

If you're less interested in 'collecting for collecting's sake', you might want to pass on bothering with these. However, you may still find them handy! If you're playing in online mode, other players can place their Standees at specific points in a course, and in doing so, they can save you by reaching them in ghost form if they're nearby a particularly tough spot. Placing them strategically to help the most players is good form.

That doesn't mean your Standees help you directly, since they're designed for other players. But at least other players you've saved will be able to see your Heart Points, a tally of how many folks you've saved. We guess if your'e the type who really wants to show off your altruism, this is a good way to do so; then again, is it truly altruistic if the end goal is bragging rights? Makes you think!
