Subnautica: Below Zero is a survival game, rich with aquatic, alien life. Though its map doesn't delve as deep as its predecessor, it's still an expansive world for players to explore. And it's littered with a variety of landmarks and secrets to uncover.
However, some of those landmarks and secrets are not so obvious. Sector Zero's waters do well to hide and obscure many places from view. So, here's a list of locations players may have missed.
Updated November 4, 2021 by Olivia Titus: Even months after its release, Below Zero is still a fun, frozen survival game. Perhaps some secret areas are easier to find, and some near-impossible. But each one still offers their own rewards and risks. And it's time to take a more thorough look at these hidden locations.
10 Twisty Bridges Tech Sites 𓆉
Only one biome from the starting region, the Twisty 💎Bridges holds many valuable locations. The most obvious is Sanctuary Zero, but litered throughout the region are three abandoned Alterra sites, filled with useful technology and resources. And between Sanctuary Zero and dodging hostile Brute Sharks, they might be easy to miss.
- Tech Site One: Within the Shallow Twisty Bridges sub-region, bordering the eastern Sparse Arctic; coordinates are -131, -55, -175, 55m down; has a beacon and lightstick fragment, both scannable, and two Alterra containers; reachable without any upgraded gear or vehicles
- Tech Site Two: Near the bottom of the Twisty Bridges, close to a Deep Twisty Bridges opening ; coordinates are -252, -124, -248, 125m down; has a scannable window, wall locker, and habitat builder fragment, and high capacity O2 tank blueprints; recommended to have a Seaglide and/or basic O2 tank
- Tech Site Three: Near the western Kelp Forests Twisty Bridges, close to a Deep Twisty Bridges opening and the entry cave to Sanctuary Zero;coordinates are -371, -171, -318, 170m down; has a scannable desk and lightstick fragment, and rebreather blueprints; recommended to have a Seaglide and basic O2 tank
9 ♌ Arctic Spires Tech Sites
The Arctic Spires are one of several land-based biomes. They're a unique place, home to the only known terrestrial Leviathan of Subnautica: 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Ice Worm. Between finding Architect blueprints and dodging these beasts, it's quite easy to miss what little Alterra bases are here.
- Tech Site One: Located in the southwestern part of the biome; coordinates are -1337, 38, -265; has a thumper blueprint, lightstick fragment, two PDAs, and mineable ore veins; recommended to have Cold Suit, Snowfox, Prawn Suit, and/or food to combat hypothermia
- Tech Site Two: Located in the ice shelf corridors of the biome; coordinates are -1091, 64, 330; has a Snowfox module blueprint, lightstick fragment, and three Alterra crates; same recommendations as Tech Site One apply
- Tech Site 3: Located in the southeastern part of the biome; coordinates are -966, 68, -84; has thumper and desk blueprints, three Alterra crates, and several ore veins; same recommendations as Tech Site One apply
- Tech Site 4: Between Tech Site 3 and the ice shelf corridors; coordinates are -1044, 6, 57; has a jukebox disk, lightstick fragment, and several Alterra crates; same recommendations as Tech Site One apply
8 Glacial Basin Tech Si👍tes
The Glacial♔ Basin is home to a variety of Snowstalkers and Pengwings alike, alongside major plotpoints. But, these twisting, icy landscapes can become disorienting, and it may be easy to miss these two big Alterra sites:
- Basin Site: In the southern region of the big basin hosting the Frozen Leviathan; coordinates are -1510, 11, -1043; has a Snowfox module blueprint and four Alterra cache boxes; the same recommendations for the Arctic Spires are needed here
- Bay Site: at the entrance to the biome, it will be easily spottable via its huge antenna; coordinates are -1021, 9, -389; has a jukebox disk and PDA, alongside four Alterra cache boxes; the same hypothermia-fighting techniques are needed here
7 ಌ Arcti🌜c Kelp Tech Site
The kelp forests of Sector Zero, fortunately, lack overt hostiles. But, they're just as expansive, and home to many hidden secrets. The mapped supply cache is an extremely valuable area for any player. But a not-so-obvious, yet equally important, cache is yet another abandoned Alterra site:
- General Location: In the eastern Kelp Forests, bordering the Sparse Arctic
- Coordinates: 113, -32, -12
- Depth: 35m
- Resources: A beacon blueprint, lightstick, and pathfinder fragments, and two Alterra cache boxes
Just beware of Sea Monkeys. This friendly fauna may steal players' scanners while trying to gather any blueprints, here.
6 🔜 Outpost Zero
This area is not-so-secret in location, per se, but rather in purpose. Players who accessed the earliest versions of the game may recognize the area for something more. And while its location will eventually be revealed, here's a quicker way to get there:
- General Location: Accessible through a cave system in the eastern Kelp Forests, north of the Alterran tech site.
- Coordinates: -72, 9, 301
- Resources: Scannable furniture (Vending Machine, Coffee Machine, Water Filtration Machine, etc.) Collecitbles (picture of Potato the Cat, a child's drawning, Posters), Tools (Batteries, Power Cell, Large Filtered Water, Ion Cube), Flora (Lantern Fruit), and PDAs
- Dangers: Hypothermia
- Recommended Prep: An abundance of Thermal Lillies and the building itself can provide shelter against the cold. At best, some heat-providing foods will be all that's needed, maybe a Cold Suit.
In the original 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:versions of the story, this outpost acted as the starting region, decked out in its prime. Now, players will find it an abdanonded, frozen relic. It's certainly a fascinating look into the game's progress.
5 Omega Lab
The Omega Lab is yet another Alterran base, originally used to study and mutate the Kharaa bacteria, before being destroyed by Marguerit Maida. While it hosts a variety of useful information, it isn't necessary to visit for the plot, making it easy to miss.
- General Location: Lilypad Islands, in the giant rock formation above the Deep Lilypad Caves
- Coordinates: 560, -189. -1065
- Depth: 200m
- Blueprints: Control Room, Aromatherapy Lamp, Swimcharge Fins
- Fragments: Nuclear Reactor, Power Cell Charger, Water Filtration Machine
- Flora: Antenna Plant, Ribbon Plant, Radiant Sieve Coral
- Dangers: Lily Paddlers and Squidsharks in the biome
- Recommended Prep: A Seatruck with one depth upgrade; a Rebreather for the depth
Finding this base comes with four PDAs, each of which reveal more history around Alterra's time on the planet. Anyone investmented in the story should definitely seek this place out.
4 Glacial ﷺConnection
This small area is a sub-biome that's extremely easy to miss. As its name suggests, it is technically a conenctor route between two bigger biomes, filled with labrynthian tunnels.
- General Location: Between the Glacial Basin and West Arctic biomes, near the Thermal Spires biome
- Coordinates: -1025, -159, -782
- Depth: 0-230m
- Resources: Eye Jelly eggs, Creepvines, Galena and Limestone Outcrops, edible fish (Bladderfish, etc.)
- Dangers: Eye Jellies can electrocute players if they get too close; drowning, if attempting to swim without a vehicle
- Recommended Prep: A Seatruck with one upgrade or Prawnsuit, to navigate without drowning
With its naturally disorienting design, it's quite easy for players to accidentally drown in these caverns. But it's a relatively peaceful biome, otherwise.
3 Marguerit's Thermal Reactors
Players aren't the only living humans in Sector Zero. Marguerit Maida has left her mark on this map, from her home base, to her greenhouse, to her abandoned 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:thermal reactors. What exactly ruined them is left uncertaꦫin, though the variety of hostile fauna local to the b🐼iome may give some clues.
- General Location: Within the Tree Spires fissures, near the border of the Lilypad Islands
- Coordinates: -1 -452 -1116
- Depths: 450m
- Resources: Desk and Booster Tank blueprints; thermal reactor and lightstick fragments; 1 PDA
- Dangers: Extreme temperatures; Brute Sharks and Chelicerate Leviathans in the biome
- Recommended Prep: A Seatruck with at least two depth upgrades, or Prawn Suit; a Rebreather for the depth; an Advanced Dive Suit for the temperatures
Marguerit has been living on planet 4546B for over a decade — and she's made sure it's been a decade of relative luxury.
2 Ar🐎chitect Teleporter
The many teleporters scattered throughout the Crater of the first gam𝄹e all but seemingly vanished in Below Zero. One is located in the Phi Robotics Center, but it cannot be activated there. So where, then, is this primary teleporter? Within the hostile Arctic Spires biome.
- General Location: Arctic Spires, north of Alterra's Tech Site Three; above Tech Site Four, which is accessed via an Architect Lift
- Coordinates: -1082, 56, 85
- Resources: Jukebox Disk, several Alterra cache crates, and a Fevered Pepper Plant
- Dangers: Ice Worms in the biome, and general hypothermia
- Recommended Prep: A Snowfox, Prawnsuit, and/or Cold Suit; any tools relevant to stave off hypothermia
Between searching for alien caches and avoiding Ice Worms, it's easy to miss this location. But activating the Arch makes a quick path between the Spires and Basin.
1 Dev Room
Perhaps the most hidden area of the game, the dev room is quite the reward to find. It's technically not meant to be accessed normally by players. However, should players make use of the Prawn Suit's grapple arm upgrade and built-in thrusters, they can find this hidden area with a bit of finagling.
- General Location: Above the Glacial Basin; most easily accessible by scaling the ice shelves above and arround the Phi Robotics Center
- Coordinates: -1164, 22, -740
- Dangers: Hypothermia
- Recommended Prep: A Prawn Suit is mandatory to access; otherwise, other hypothermia-fighting items (food, Cold Suit, Snowfox, etc.)
- Resources: All of them; every asset — fish, tool, resource — is all here
Accessing this area can technically get players some hard-to-gather resources. But mosꦑtly, finding this secret 𝓀is its own reward.
