Sarah Morgan isn't the first member of Constellation you'll meet in , but she is the first Constellation member who won't ditch you five minutes later (we love you, Barrett). As such, Sarah is very much your early window into how the organization works, as well as several of the key aspects of Starfield's predictably expansive worldbuilding.
You may find yourself more attached to this soldier-turned-explorer as you complete your preliminary Constellation assignment with her. As is the case with all of Starfield's main companions, Sarah has her own quest you'll need to undertake before she'll become your steadfast friend - or perhaps something more.
Why Romance Sarah Morgan?
If you're interested in having your character pursue a romance with someone in Starfield, and you have a weak spot for clever intellectuals brimming with a drive to see everything there is to see in the universe, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better match than Sarah Morgan.
Sarah isn't without her fair share of past demons, and you'll learn all about them if you spend enough time with her. But she maintains an explorer's code, a heartfelt and sincere need to help advance humanity in ways both benevolent and profound. She's also just a nice woman in general, so if you're not looking to get hitched with the sort of partner who wouldn't blink twice at you turning into an infamous murderer, you're pretty safe here with Sarah.
How To Earn Affinity With Sarah
Like other companions, Sarah will occasionally open up to you with new conversations as you travel with her. There are two ways to ensure this happens. First, just travel with her. We already said it, but it's mandatory stuff. You won't trigger these if you just check up on her at the Lodge, nor if you simply keep her aboard your ship as crew.
The other thing you need to do to expedite the process is to do things that Sarah approves of, AKA earn affinity with her. Helping out at organizations with ostensibly noble goals is a good approach; the UC Vanguard, for example, is a better place to be when Sarah's along for the ride than the Trade Authority.
In fact, Sarah loathes the Trade Authority, so if you're dead set on doing their quests with her in tow, at least make sure you behave as nobly as possible while dealing with them. Sarah is only among the several companions who deeply appreciates when players behave charitably. You'll undoubtedly bump into characters in Starfield who are down on their luck to the point the game gives you the option to drop 20,000 credits on them. Consider these (very expensive) guaranteed boosts.
Sarah's Companion Quest
Once you get Sarah's affinity up high enough, and - just as importantly - have cycled through every conversation leading up to unlocking this quest - you will be given the task to speak with Admiral Logan at MAST's defense department. Given what you will have learned about his history with Sarah, it's no surprise he's not exactly eager to fork up the data we need. Butter him up with persuasion if you can, but he'll eventually relent regardless.
With the data in her hands, Sarah requests that we head to Cassiopeia. The system here is a reasonably low level such that if you should happen to unlock this quest, 'In Memorium', early on, you shouldn't find it too rough. That said, if you're under level 20 or so especially, be sure to find as good a spacesuit as possible, and ideally a powerful rapid-fire pistol or similar fare. Some of the enemies down o🔴n Cassiopeia are less forgiving than their levels imply.
Take great care around the scannable fauna near the objective up the canyon after you've found the old pod. They can and will gang up on you, ambushing you all at once as soon as you've grabbed the item. Our advice? Keep your distance by staying significantly higher up in the rocks. These beasts do not appear capable of reaching you, as is the case with many of Starfield's deadly alien adversaries.
Once the data's been decoded, it's a journey across more of Cassiopeia from another landing spot, and you'll eventually meet a girl. We won't go into spoilers, but after some initial tension, you must go off on your own to locate dog tags. The flower-like creatures here aren't too much trouble, but the 'silverfish' foes, especially the one with a notably higher level, can be tough. Pick them off from afar, and prepare to deal with several more of the weaker variety upon your return to the girl's house.
Whether you have the girl leave her home is up to you. If she does, she'll move to the Lodge. We think it's for the best, all things considered, but it's one of those choices that's more about how you feel than what you're getting in return.
Whether you've been flirting with Sarah up through this point isn't as important as you may think, but to keep things trucking along, if you're determined to romance her, you really might as well. It's only once the issue with the girl is dealt with when you're back at New Atlantis and Sarah asks you to meet her at the waterfall here that things take their fateful turn; here, you'll either choose to engage in romance with her or you won't.
We think it's possible to kickstart the flames again if you elect not to at this time, and we will update this article as soon as it's confirmed. But to be safe, go ahead and do it now. After some time, a marriage will ensue, and you're happily-ever-after with your fellow intrepid explorer.
