When Does The Story Take Place?
Star Wars Outlaws is a canonical story set in the year 3 ABY. ABY stands for After the Battle of Yavin, the battle that takes place at the end of Episode 4 when Luke blows up the Death Star. This means that the events of Star Wars Outlaws happen during the same year as The Empire Strikes Back and one year before Return of the Jedi.
This also means the story takes place near the end of the Galactic Civil War—aka the war between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire. The Empire here is still a major player and some of the toughest enemies to fight against, but it's also not as powerful as ever and mostly focused on the rebels. This gives a lot of breathing room for criminal syndicates to run free in the Outer Rim, where the most isolated planets are located.
The State Of The Galaxy
As mentioned, the year is 3 ABY, but by playing the game, it's safe to say that the game takes place after Empire Strikes Back. This means that the Empire has just retaliated against the rebels over the events of A New Hope, that Luke lost his ha🗹nd and has resumed his Jedi training, and that Han Solo is a block of carbonite.
By analyzing stories set in a similar time period, we can tell you that the Obi-Wan series takes place 13 years before Outlaws.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order happened 17 years before, while Star Wars Jedi: Survivor happened 12 years before it. And ꦦsix years from now, on 9 ABY, Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, ♉will meet Grogu.

Because of the war, many crime organizations are thriving, whether due to profiting by selling things to both rebels and the Empire or just taking advantage of the chaos to control as many areas as possible. In terms of the canon, it's also important to point out that while the game has choices, it only has one canonical ending. You can make quite a few choices during the game or some minor choices during missions that will affect your reputation among the c💃rime syndicates, and you can easily forsake on✨e group just to favor another.
Still, that won't affect the story's larger moments, and the ending is the same despite whether the Crimson Dawn likes or hates you, for example. So, regardless of how you get to the end, Kay Vess' story has many canon moments and a solid ending that won't be altered by your choices.
