Kylo Ren's lightsaber is a unique crossguard lightsaber. Most crossguard lightsabers are designed with extra blades for the advantage the fighter gets during a fight. Kylo Ren's, on the other hand, has to be a crossguard.

His original blade was blue, but when he joined the Sith he corrupted the kyber crystal inside, turning it red. However, it cracked in the process. To continue to use this crystal, Kylo had to turn his lightsaber into a crossguard; the additional 'blades' are actually just vents that serve to stabilize the crystal and, subsequently, the main blade.

Lightsabers have had centuries to evolve and transform. There are several unique types with advantages and disadvantages.

Lightsaber	Lightsabers are the basic weapon, designed for use by human-siz🌸ed species. Their blades are circular and can cut in any directio⭕n. From the bottom of the hilt to the top of the blade, they are approximately one meter long.
Shoto Lightsaber	Shoto Lightsabers are particularly small sabers that are used fo🅺r one of two reasons. First, they are used by fighters who are two small to comfortably use the standard lightsaber, like Master Yoda. Second, fighters who want to dual wield may use a standard lightsaber in their main hand and a shoto lightsaber in their offhand, or two shoto lightsabers.
Great Lightsaber	Like the shoto lightsaber, great lightsabers ♒are meant for species who are significantly larger than even the largest human. Unlike the shoto lightsaber, fighters who are not from large species do not use the great lightsaber variation. Dual-Phase Lightsaber	Dual-phase lightsabers have one blade but used two or more kyber crystals. This allows them to change the length of their blade by using buttons on the hilt of the saber. They were largely considered outdated by the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars and weren't widely used, but Darth Vader's was actually a dual-phase lightsaber.
Broadsaber	Broadsabers are the size of traditional swords. Unlike regular lightsabers, which can cut regardless of which edge is being used, broadsabers only have two cutting edges. However, the advantage they have in recompense is the large surface area. It was meant for use in Form I. By the time of the Jedi Order in Anakin Skywalker's day, they had largely gone out of style.
Crossguard Lightsaber	Crossguard lightsabers can be the same length as standard, giant, or shoto lightsabers, but they include two extra blades that come out of the hilt perpendicular to the primary blade. An extension of the hilt protects the user's hand. Among ancient Jedi, it was popular for users of Form II.
Training Lightsaber	Training Lightsabers are used for training youn👍glings in the use of a sword. There are vari🥂ous types. Some included no khyber crystal whatsoever, being made of wood, tempered plastic, copper, etc., while others did contain an energy blade but were permanently set to a low setting.
Lightwhip	Lightwhips are sabers that have been modified to be flexible, essentially operating as a leather whip. Som🧔e are able to switch between the whip and🐽 blade forms. Though they were occasionally used by Jedi, they were especially associated with the Nightsisters, a Force-wielding organization from Dathomir.

2 🦩 What Makes T♒he Darksaber Special

If you're a Star Wars fan who has been keeping up with all the new movies and television shows, you're probably familiar with the Darksaber. It's a lightsaber that was crafted by the first Mandalorian Jedi and is unique from all other blades. It's thought that, in order to rightfully possess the Darksaber, it must be won from its previous owner in combat. If it was taken under other circumstances, the people of Mandalore believe it would bring destruction to their race.

What gives the Darksaber its iconic look and power? To start, the entire hilt is made out of beskar, a metal found only on Mandalore. The emitter at the top is a slit, giving the weapon a unique blade shape. However, the really unique part of the Darksaber is the crystal.

Like all lightsabers, it is powered by a kyber crystal, and that gives it its color. While all kyber crystals are connected to the force, and so can connect to the emotions of the lightsaber's user, the Darksaber's kyber crystal is especially sensitive to its user. Th𒆙e blade can become charged with extra energy through a heightened emotional state, and the wielder can guide the power changes with their emotional state, thoughts, and actions. It will also weigh heavier or lighter depending on how much or how little the user is resisting the connection.

1 All🌼 The Ma🌄terials That Are Resistant To Lightsabers

Lightsabers are well known for being able to cut into almost any material; we watch Jedi cut through metal doors, slice off limbs, and much m🍸ore.

The critical word, though, is 'almost.' There are a select few materials that are immune or resistant to the blade of a lightsaber.

Beskar	The most famous material rꦓesistant to lightsabers, Beskar is made from a steel found on Mandalore and is used in traditional Mandalorian armor. It deflects lightsabers entirely.
Zillo Beast Hide	Zillo Beasts are repti༺lian creatures from the planet Malastare. They were once thought to be extinct, but are just incredibly rare. Their hide, and leather made from it, deflects lightsaber attacks.
Cortosis	Armor made from Cortosis - a rare metal - would not only deflect a lightsaber blade, but it would also 𝓰redirect the energy into the hilt and cause it to shut off temporarily.
Kohlen Crystals	When Kohlen Crystals are use to power an energy shield, th♏e shield will not be damaged by most lightsaber blades - the only exception is a special, low-powered orange variety.
Phrik	Phrik is another rare metal, and it is completely impervious to lights▨aber♏s.
