Imagine Truck Simulator but in space. That’s what Star Trucker is. Yo♍u have your rig, and you’ll be taking on jobs getting cargo from system to system, using established routes, and overcoming more dangerous cosmic environments. Unlike driving on Earth, every direction is something you need to consider.
So is it just a game about flying a spacetruck from place to place? Mostly, yes. But you also neꦺed to keep your vehicle in working order. That means fuel, oxygen filters, power, temperature regulation, hopping into your space suit to patch up damage as you take it, and keeping the artificial gravity active. There’s nothing like driving along only to see some crates from your shelves on board float past your face in the cockpit.🐽

It makes for an incredibly interesting mix. On one hand, you’ll feel quite cozy in your spacetruck, taking it easy while the void of space is mere layers of metal and glass away, as you switch on the radio to drown out the sound of absolute nothingness. On the other hand, you’ll have to keep on top of quite a bit of maintenance, which might mean trying to do some jobs real quick because your oxygen filters are not looking too good, or realising yไou’ve actually been freezing for the last few missions and trying to bring the temp back up before your body itself shuts down.

Star Trucker is the definition of a podcast game, as you switch off and just take on jobs in your trusty vehicle. Then, all of a sudden, you have to switch your brain back on because your trusty vehicle stopped being quite so trusty, and once that’s dealt with, back off your brain goes. And then, an electromagnetic debris field shows up.
To me, this is one of those games that’s easy to pick up and play, even though you could eit🐲her have the most calm, smooth journey you’ve ever had, or you could end up spinning around uncontrollably as you drift further away from your truck trying to chase a piece o🍰f cargo you saw floating around in the space dust. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
