A modern remake 🍰that respects your time yet makes me disrespect it anyway by being so damn engrossing.
While every character can potentially use every Specialty in the game, those who have those intrinsic Talents related to those Specialties will have a much easier job when it comes to doing so successfully. Of course, there's nothing stopping a character from acquiring a Talent.
Talents, Explained
Talents are, broadly speaking, an affinity for certain Specialties. If a character has a Talent, they will be better a💟t using a Specialty - this usually translates to higher success chances when trying to execute an action.
There are ten Talents in the game, and each character will have a random s🔜election of them when they join the party. They are listed below, alon🎶g with the Specialties they are related to:
Talent |
Related Specialties |

Originality |
Customisation, Crafting |

Nimble Fingers |
Crafting, Machinist, Pickpocketing |

To view a character's Talents, you'll need to head to their Status screen.
The following Specialties have no related Talents: Appraising, Compounding, Replication, Oracle, Train, Survival, Fishing. These Specialties are therefore improved only by special items and skill levels.
How To Get New Talents
It is possible for a character to 'acquire' a Talent when they use a Specialty related to that Talent. When they acquire the Talent, they will get a nice bonus of 100 SP and 100 BP, making it well worth your while to try and acquire new Talents for each character. For example, make a character Cook simple dishes when they have no Taste Talent, and they'll eventually get the Talent and a bunch of extra points to spend.
Each character has a certain chance of acquiring a certain Talent whenever they use a related Specialty. Just keep using a Specialty with a certain character, and they will eventually acquire the Talent if it is at all possible.
Some characters are simply never going to acquire certain Talents. You can see this by checking the Talent list in the Status screen - for example, non-magical characters will never have the Blessing of Mana Talent, and Opera can never gain Wild Instinct or a Love for Animals - these Talents are missing from their Status menus entirely. The Talents that they can acquire will appear in the Talent list but greyed out.
To raise these chances significantly, you can use the Orchestra Super Specialty. As long as the effects of Orchestra are still active (as denoted by a music note in the top right of the screen)✤, a character will be far more likely to acquire a new Talent when using Specialties.
