In 2021, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Squid Game became a cultural phenomenon. Originally only commissioned for a single season by Netflix, the show became the most-watched in the platform’s history, scooping up numerous awards in the process. Naturally, Netflix quickly order🌸ed two more seasons.
Season 2 was released late last year and, following 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:its explosive finale and a six-month wait, we’re now on the cusp of the third and♍ final season’s launch.

Squid Game's Trans Character Is A Triumph Of Tenderness
While the plot follows 456's attempts to take Squid Game down, no one captures the plight of the regular contestants lik🎶e Player 120.
Ahead of that, I attended the Squid Game Season 3 press conference, and got to discuss the past, present, and future of the show, with director Hwang Dong-hyuk, and actors Lee Jung-jae (168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Player 456), Lee Byung-hun (168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Front Man), and Park Gyu-young (North Korean Pi🅠nk Guard Kang No-eul).
Shooting The Biggest Show On The Planet
While four years (or six, if you include the time it took to shoot Season 1) isn’t that long in the world of television, Squid Game had a life-changing impact on the show’s cast a🐻nd crea👍tor.
Lee Jung-jae reveals that his favourite part of the show wasn’t the filming, but the audience reaction and reach of the show. He said, “Prior to Squid Game, people knew of me and my work within Korea or some ꦿcountries in Southeast Asia. B☂ut after Squid Game, thankfully, I got to meet with so many audience members around the world.”
Lee Byung-hun felt bittersweet about potentially leaving things behind, and about the show as a whole. “The fact that the series transcends borders and transcends all languages means that the narrative of the show and the socio-political issues that it talks about, and the issue of losing our humanity, is somethinꦦg that's not just Korean, it's something that's universal to everyone out there,” he says. “So as an actor, I'm happy that the series is doing s๊o well, but as a person living in this society, I think it's a little bit bitter too.”
Fame and success weren’t the only things the team gained from Squid Game; it seems that everlasting friendships wer𝓡e also dev♕eloped during filming. Hwang reveals that he really missed Oh Il-nam (Season 1’s Player 001 and Squid Game mastermind), Sae-byeok (The North Korean defector looking to help her family escape), and Sang-woo (Player 456’s Season 1 finale competitor) while filming Seasons 2 and 3. In fact, he built such a lasting relationship with Sae-byeok actress Jung Ho-yeon that the pair meet for drinks from time to time.
Lee Jung-jae also shares that he misses a lot of the cast from the first Seasoꦆn, and he has a theory as to why: “The location was the same,” he says. “When we shot scenes at the dormitory, the actors from Season 1 all came to mind.”
When I started shooting, I kept telling the prop guyꦇs, ‘I'm going to have the mask.’
Despite the success it brought, the team share that they weren’t allowed to take anything home from the Squid Game set. Lee Byung-hun reveals that, “When I started shooting, I kept telling the prop guys, ‘I'm going to have the mask.’” Unfortunately for the actor, they wouldn’t let him. T😼hat was, until the last day of shooting, when they presented him with a replica of the iconic black mask as a gift.
Park encountered a similar siඣtuation, with the production team gifting her a replica triangle mask at the end of filming.
The Secretive Season 3
Unsurprisingly, the cast was reluctant to reveal any spoilers reg𓆏arding the show’s third season during the press conference, but we still got some insight into howꦐ things would pan out.
Hwang shared that he’d initially planned for things to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:wrap at Season 2, but during the writing process, “the story developed into a total of 12 to 13 episodes”, and he “felt that it was too long to be put into a single season, so we decide🀅d to split it into two”.
Player 001 infamously entered the game as an insider in Season 1, unbeknownst to viewers. The show flipped the script in Season 2, with Player 001 filling a similar role; however, this time, the audience knew. This revelation is one thing Hwang is most excited abo💮ut for Season 3.
“I thought that by having the audience on our side, in on the secret, it could create a different type and a sense of tension as well as a gripping element to the story,” he says. “I think it will be interesting to see how Ki-hoon will find out about In-ho's identity and how the inc😼ident will affect Ki-hoo🐭n's final decision.”
Is It Really The End Of Squid Game?
Given the cultural zeitgeist around Squid Game, it’s hard to imagine that after three seasons, Netflix would let go of one of its most popular show🥀s, but it certainly seems that way. It’s well documented that shooting the show took a physical and mental toll on Hwang, with the director , and it seems like he’s ready to move on.
Throughout the event, Hwang repeatedly echoes sentiments like, “It’s the finale for the whole 🌃series. The whole show,” and that “it’s time 🧸to say goodbye”, as if to reaffirm his commitment to moving on to something new.
Despite being done with the series, that’s not s🐼topped Hwang from worrying. “When I was writing Season 3, I had a lot of big decisions to make,” he says. “I'm still thinking whether it's good or not.”
When I first read it [the script], I felt it could be a finale, but at the same time, it could be a new 🅷start.
While two of the actors used similar terminology to Hwang, inc𒉰luding Park, who said, “I’m pretty sure it’s the finale of this whole universe,” when describing the Season 3 finale, Lee Byung-hun offers a different opinion.
When asked to describe the finale in three words, Byung-hun said “climax” and “conclusion” but ended with “new start”, saying, “It’s a dual meaning,” seemingly teasing his audience that there may be more to come. He reiterated this later on, by adding✨, “Director Hwang keeps saying it's a finale. But when I first read it [the script], I felt it could be a finale, but at the same time, it could be a new start. It's my personal opinion, but if the audience's love and support increase, we'll never know what happens."
In the world that we live in, this could be the biggest indication that Netflix hopes to c💝ontinue the Squid Game universe for longer than it’s letting on.
