Reliable insider Canadian Guy Eh has reported that the newly independent Toys for Bob is partneri🗹ng 🐷with Microsoft to develop Spyro 4. You might be asking, “Didn’t the fourth Spyro game come out, like, 20 years ago?” The answer is yes, and it was actually 22 years ago, to be precise. But if the studio’s previous fourquel 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Crash Bandicoot꧅ 4: It&rsquo𓂃;s About Time is any indication, everything from Enter the Dragonfly on is likely going to b🦩e ignored in favor of connecting this new entry back to the trilogy that෴ purple dragon fans actually love.

Crash Bandicoot 4 was a good game, and it was disappointing when Activision Blizzard didn’t attempt to develop the revitalized series further after successfully reigniting interest with the N. Sane Trilogy. Crash 4 had terrific levels, great environmental design, and tight controls that made platforming a joy. But there was only so much Toys for Bob could do to modernize Crash Bandicoot without losing the soul of the series. Crash gameplay is inherently limited in a way that Spyro's isn’t, and making a faithful sequel meant making on-rails levels that kept Crash moving in one direction at all times.

As a result, Crash 4 couldn’t change things up all that much. It had interesting new mechanics, like Crash being able to turn into a destructive tornado that could help him bridge gaps and blow enemies away. But the levels were structured the way Crash leve♒ls have always been structured. You ran toward the camera, usually with a boulder or dinosaur or something chasing after you, you ran away from the camera, carefully navigating a narrow path, or you ran parallel to the camera, running left to right along a 2D plane. Whichever direction you were running, you were on rails.

Spyro 4 Could Take To The Open Sky

Spyro offers much more room for flexibility. The games in the original trilogy were structured similarly to Super Mario 64, with hub worlds that branched off into discrete levels you could unlock and explore. A new Spyro could keep that structure, but the levels themselves have never been constrained in the way that Crash levels are. You expect Crash to move in one direction. That direction may vary, but the forward momentum doesn’t. Crash isn’t a series about backtracking or exploration. Spyro is, and the power of the PS5 (assuming that Microsoft continues to expand on 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:its multi-platform release strategy) and the Xbox Series X give Toys for Bob much ౠmore freedom to build huge, sprawl🌄ing levels than Insomniac had on the PS1.

Crash Bandicoot’s parents at 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Naughty Dog are known for exploring “wide linear” design through levels like the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Last of Us Part 2’s “Seattle Day 1” and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Uncharted: The Lost Legacy’s “The Western Ghats”. These areas are huge, but really, they’re not that different from old Spyro levels. You explore a wide-open space until you find the items that you need, and then those items allow you to move on to the next level. The specifics✤ are different &mdash꧟; Ellie and Chloe’s quests are contextualized by the plot while Spyro mostly hunts for gems — but the basic idea of exploring a large level until you find a key item is the same.

Spyro 4: Ripto Rift Apart

Bigger isn’t always better, but newer technology opens up room to explore new ideas. Spyro’s parents over at Insomniac have experimented with the power of the SSD on 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Spider-Man 2, using its instantaneous loads to have Ratchet warp between dimensions and Miles swing from New York to Antarctica and back again in the space of a few seconds. Spyro games have always had portals leading to new worlds, but a modern Spyro could allow the friendly neighborhood fire breather to hop between worlds at a second’s no🍌tice.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was one of the early PS5 games to take advantage of the system's SSD, but Spider-Man 2's thrilling Black Cat chase shows that there's still plenty of room to explore.

I love games that look good, and Crash 4 looked good. But I’m much more excited about a game that can use modern🐻 tech to improve gameplay instead of just graphics. If Spyro is coming back, ꩲI hope that current consoles let him take flight.
