While it might be easy to make and use, 🍸its necessity and ability to preserve your food shouldn't be ove🐟rlooked by even the most advanced settlements. Even if you're playing alone, ensuring you have a drying rack full of food will keep you fed and thriving in Sons of the Forest.

What Is The Drying Rack?

The drying rack is a great tool for preserving food that you can find inside the 'Storage' section of your survival guide. It takes nine sticks to build, which you can usually collect from small trees in the immediate area and place into the blueprint with the white outline.

How To Use The Drying Rack

Once built, you'll need to find some meat to hang on it. This means that you'll need to go hunting for some animals if you don't already have some in your inventory. It will need to be an animal that actually produces meat, so anything larger than a white rabbit will work. You can hang fish and cuts of meat on the drying rack.

Once you've killed the animal and harvested the meat from it, take it to the drying rack and press the interaction button when you get close enough. This will open your backpack, and you'll be able to select which meat you want to hang on the rack.

Depending on the meat you're drying, it could take half to an entire in-game day for it to finish and all you can do is wait. Instead of cooking faster like a fire, this makes it a great place to store extra food where you and your allies can find it, but a bad place to go for a quick meal.

You'll know it's finished when the meat goes from its normal red color to a brownish color with rougher skin.

Whether it be Kelvin or animals, food can disappear off of your drying rack. The best solution is to have multiple protected drying racks, so you have more to draw from.

Once dried, the meat will last for much longer than if you were to keep it in your bag raw or cooked and let it spoil. You can eat it or take it with you on a journey, and it will last until you're able to find other food.
