These days, it’s fairly common for farming games to start with a person who’s tired of the daily capitalist city grind setting off in pursuit of an idyllic life in a small town, where they can tend to a farm and befriend the locals. What isn’t fairly common, though, is seeing cats do it.
Snacko is a charming indie pixel-art farming and town management sim that follows your player-created cat character — completely customizable down to th🔜eir toe beans and individual eye colors — and their sassy childhood best friend, Mikan, as they set off on a boat journey to the island of Snacko. During the long sea voyage, a storm causes their small wooden boat to take on water. They both wash up on the shores of Snacko, shipwrecked but thankfully in the right place.

RP-Gee En🐻ough Already, My Brain 🐠Is About To Explode And Farming Is The Answer
I've got RPG burn-out,⛄ and the only prescript𒆙ion is more farming sims.
You hear a voice belonging to the goddess of the island of Snacko before Nobu, a farmer cat with a charming Southern accent and piece of wheat that he never stops chewing, finds you on the beach as you discover the island is almost completely destroyed. Nobu brings you home to help get you back on your paws, lovingly referring to the two of you as “kits” instead of “kids” and asking no questions of you except that you don’t ask him about the island’s history. It’s a s🍎ensitive subject for someone who’s lived through the unnamed disaster, after all.
After his resource collection and tool tutorials ౠequip you to explore a bit more of Snacko, Nobu gives you and Mikan your own separate cottages to decorate. Naturally, little is unlocked from the start &nda🦋sh; only the items that Nobu has shared with you – but there’s plenty more to discover around the island as you develop your skills.
The primary location for this seems to be the town center, where in the beginning of the game, there’s next to nothingꦦ apart from ruins left by the disaster Nobu refuses to talk about. The calamity has wrecked what used to be of Snacko, leaving behind resources you can gather and use to rebuild and rejuvenate the once thriving island.
My demo th💟en progressed into a late game save so I could see how this struggling seaside town develops from piles of lumber into a bustling community with about 30 different characters across numerous animal species who you’re able to invite from the mainland to join you on Snacko, most of whom will end up serving in varying roles that benefit the island. For instance, you’ll need a grocer to provide food to the town, but unless you, Mikan, or Nobu want to work in customer service, you’ll need to bring someone in from the mainland and give them a house to live in once the grocery store has been restored.
And if y༒ou’d like to add some romance to your new island life, roughly 12 of your islanders are romanceable.
I wandered through a Snacko that looked nothing like the one I’d landed on, when I was introduced⛎ to Rejka, the callous, recently immigrated wolf who had no interest in talking to us, going as far as telling us we were welcome to leave his super-modern home in the town center. I claimed early on that I’d likely romance Mikan, but I like Rejka, and I still haven’t met the other 10 singles, either꧙.
Developer Bluecurse Studios is a small team of just two people who have been working on Snacko for about six years. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign for the game, Sn♏acko released in Early Access on Steam back in December with the game’s full story available from start to finish. The team plans to use the time in Early Access to flesh out its existing characters, add more to its catalog of resources or crafting items, allow you to expand your home, and overall, continue to implement feedback from real players to polish the final version. They’re aiming to have Snacko in🦩 Early Access for under a year. The game is available now on Steam and is a solid choice for those looking for their next ultra-cozy fix.
