It's hard to be a tiny toddler in the big world of The Sims 4. Here, you can learn abou🧸t the five Toddler Skills that are essential to growing up.

The toddler stage ♎is particularly fun and chaotic, and it is also the stage when your Sims will start learning things they will be using for the rest of their lives. The ability to understand the world can be honed through helping a toddler master the Thinking skill, one of the five skills of toddlerhood in the game.

What Is The Thinking Skill?

Toddlers have completely different skill sets than children, teenagers, or adults do in The Sims 4. Toddler's skills are often simpler and more general, spanning a few different activities.

In The Sims 4, the Thinking skill corresponds to a toddler's ability to comprehend ideas. It is also representative of their curiosity.

𓆉A toddler with high Thinking will be less prone to throwing tantrums and will eventually know not๊ to splash around in the toilet.

Toddlers stimulate their thinking when they ponder the whys and the whats of the world around them, which often involves trying to figure out what objects are or asking ♔older Sims important questions that can help them understand more things.

Just learning the skill will do little to make a toddler gain this kind of awareness, though. Like most skills in the game, the benefi𝐆ts will only appear as you raise the skill.

How To Gain The Thinking Skill

Every new adventure in a toddler's little life must begin with a first step. To learn the Thinking skill toddlers will need to perform an action related to said skill.

It is usually possible to do it quickly with any object whatsoever, as toddlers can use the "What's That?" interaction freely with almost anything.

If you're unsure, you can always make an older Sim teach them something.

Once they have interacted with anything to prompt Thinking, they will immediately gain the skill.

Thinking actions are often marked by three blocks forming a small pyramid, the Thinking skill icon.

How To Improve The Thinking Skill

There are a few ways toddlers can improve the Thinking skill. Some of them involve playing alone with certain toys, while others require help from older Sims.

To improve a toddler's Thinking skill you can:

  • Use the "What's That?" interaction on different objects.
  • Play with Flashcards with a caretaker.
  • Play "Shapes" with Nesting Blocks.
  • Play Simshape on a kid's tablet.
  • Help the toddler learn basic needs like walking, potty, talking, etc.

Keeping your toddler in a Happy mood will help them build the Thinking skill faster.

Benefits Of Leveling The Thinking Skill

The Thinking skill has five different levels and each of them gives toddlers a specific reward or improvement of abilities, much like r🦋egular skills do for older Sims. These are all the benefits of leveling up🎃 the Thinking skill during this age:

Level

Benefit

One

None.

Two

Can now play Shapes w🔜ith Nesting Blocks and will be defiant less often.

Three

Can n𓆉ow learn numbers f꧅rom Flashcards and will sleep better through the night.

Four

Can now ask Why of other Sims and knows not to splasဣh around in the toilet.

Five

Can now practice spelling with Nesting Blocks and learn letters with Flashcards. The toddler will also never be defiant and will sleep soundly through the night🍸.

Additionally, there are a few more benefits for teaching a toddler skills. Some are general and require that you teach them all the skills, while💃 some are specific to a singular skill.

The most straightforward benefit from improving on a skill is that your Sim will get a head-start on their childhood abilities after successfully navigating toddlerhood.

The Thinking skill gives your Sim a head-start on the Mental skill once they become a child, so instead of starting out with zero skill, they will automatically have 2 points of Mental.

As for the benefits of teaching them all skills, they're far more significant.

If you have your toddler reach level three in all toddler skills, they will grow up with the Happy Toddler trait, which grants them the following benefits:

  • Ten percent boost on all skill gains for the rest of their lives.
  • Randomly get a Happy moodlet from remembering their happy toddlerhood.

Similarly, if you reach the maximum level in all toddler skills, they will gain the Top Notch Toddler trait, which also has some longstanding benefits:

  • 25 percent boost on all skill gains for the rest of their lives.
  • 25 percent boost on career gains for the rest of their lives.
  • Randomly get a Happy moodlet from remembering their happy toddlerhood.

Teaching a toddler all these skills can be a lot of hard work, but it is definitely worth it for the benefits they will get later on.

Toddler Traits That Help With Thinking

Toddlers have a singular trait dictating their personality throughout their entire toddlerhood. As the player, you can sele🌌ct th💝is trait.

Each of the available traits has a specific set of pros and cons, and some are related to how your toddlers learn. Selecting the right trait can help you focus on the skills you want to build the most, and it will generally affect your exp🌄erience r🍬aising your toddler.

If you want a toddler to quickly master the thinking skill, then you should make them inquisitive or independent.
