There are times throughout 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Silent Hill 2 where 🥂I just stood still. I waited in place in the middle of an abandoned record store as the decomposing corpses of strange monsters lay slumped around me. I stare outside into a derelict town😼 covered in a blanket of fog, well aware that it’s only a matter of time until I need to embrace the horrors that await me.
James Sunderland’s jaunt through the titular town shouldn’t be a means to relax or take it easy, but there is something about Silent Hill that makes me want to let go, toꦑ spend a few hours walking its streets. Despite knowing that I’m not alone, I am assured that not a soul is going to judge me for who I am or what I’ve done. In this restless town, I can feel at peace﷽.
That’s precisely what James is doing, retreating back to Silent Hill in stark denial of what he’s done wrong in life. I’ve never murdered anybody, but there is something eerily rౠelaxing about a town living in a perpetual state of its own destruction, filled to breaking point with♏ monsters brought to life by the subconscious of its troubled occupier.
James describes it as his special place, a sanctuary shared by himself and Mary where all of their troubles can melt🐭 away. But is that true, or is this constantly shifting townscape an easy escape that gradually changes to an unforgiving purgatory? It’s deliberately ambiguous, which is part of Silent Hill 2’s charm.
Ev💖eryone you meet in Silent Hill 2 views the town differently. Eddie believes that all the people he encounters are laughing at him, taunting him to th🐭e brink of suicide because of how he looks and what he’s done.
Angela was physically and mentally abused by her family, to the point where even when James tries to help her, she is forced to relive her trauma with no choice but to view every man she encounters🍨 as a sexual predator. The bloody knife she wields indicates she might have murdered her abusers out of desperation, forced to live with a cycle of undeserving guilt where suicide is the only escape.
Laura doesn’t see any of the monsters that everyone else does, because Silent Hill is an ethereal place where its identity is shaped by your own life experiences, lending to tℱhe surreal, dreamlike quality that drives every step you take. It feels like you are walking through a twisted fantasy, and it’s hard not to feel entranced by it all even as untold horrors come knocking.
There are some underlying explanations to how exactly the town came to be, but Silent Hill has always been strongest when it beats around the bush. It focuses on the collective trauma of its characters and leaves the wider meaning to our own interpretation. This makes putt🧸ing the broken pieces together on your own terms quietly exhilarating. I play Silent Hill 2 at the slow and considered pace that a survival horror game like this isn’t suited for, yet I’m keen to soak up every little detail.
Sometim♋es there is nothing to draw from them except for fictional conclusions, such as how a cutesy flower shop gave way to disrepair, or why a hospital now sits in ruin despite once helping people get back on their feet. Silent Hill takes horror clichés and subverts them, wrapping us up in a psychological blanket where despair and content are bedfellows you can’t help but respect. It draws you in and doesn’t let go, aꦗnd while it loves to terrify, I can’t help but overlook the pursuit of survival and feel at peace. Like the character I happen to embody somehow belongs here, and is ready to meet his end.
I’m only a few hours into the remake right now, but I’m taking my time and appreciating all it has to offer. Standing inside an abandoned shop and witnessing monsters prowl outside like I’m in The Mist is beautifully disturbing. A sort of hellscape that threatens you as much as it intrigues. You can’t help b꧋ut poke, prod, and become one with everything you see, and that in itself is unusually relaxing in ways that very few games are.
I feel like I belong, even if I want nothing more than to walk away and never look b🥃ack.
