Silent Hill 2 Review: Revisiting A Resꦅtless Dream

Is Silent Hill 2 still our special place, or h🅺as it beco🐟me a twisted nightmare?

1

Eddie, last seen in Toluca Prison, has found himself at the bottom of the Labyrinth, facing his own struggles. Those i๊ssues became a problem for James as well when Eddie's own paranoia has James painted as an enemy. Cruel as it may be, here's how to take down Eddie.

Leaving The Labyrinth

After entering Maria's room in the Labyrinth, you have to leave again empty-handed, Jamesღ less than how he came in. Return to the main hall to continue his downward spiral.

Where the pedestal for the giant cube once stood, an ominous but mysterious weapon now lies in its place - Pyramid Head's giant knife. Ja🗹mes can even p🧜ick it up, and must do so to continue onward.

Dragging the giant knife along the ground, approach the wall of writhing hands. Like you did while running from Pyramid Head in the Ruined Labyrinth, simply power through this wall of wriggling mass. Whether James haꦆs become more mentally fortified after his trial or simply isn't strong enough to care anymore, he can push through these arms with ease, appearing on the other side unharmed.

You have to drop the giant knife at this point to climb the ladder ahead of you, though it was a nice, surreal moment while it lasted. Eve🌳n if it was a bit on-the-𝕴nose.

This is a reference to the original Silent Hill 2, where James got to keep Pyramid Head's knife as a melee weapon for the remainder of the game.

From here, you will enter into a graveyard bearing the names of many of the people James met along his journey in Silent Hill, himself included. But no Mary. Before approaching James' grave, make sure to pick up the Health Drink and Shotgun Shells you can find nearby.

Finding Eddie

The only option left to James is to descend into his own grave. Silent Hill 2 was never a game about subtlety. After James' fall, he will stand up again in a hallway dripping with blood, a solitary door standing at the ver😼y end. Pass through it to meet one of James' final adversaries.

Amidst a room full of corpses, Eddie stands with a gun held to his head, muttering to himself. Just like when you met him back in the Woodside Apartments and🍌 again in Toluca Prison, it seems he truly is killing these people, and he doesn't like the look James i🔯s giving him.

Eddie starts waving his revolver in front of James' face, prompting him to punch him in the face, ꦓdisarming him and causing him to tumble to the floor. He claim🌳s it was all a joke once again, that he wasn't really going to shoot him. He scared you though, didn't he? With that snarky remark, he runs away.

In the original game, this scene ended with a small fight against Eddie before he ran away, while what could be🐭 seen as the fight is in the cutscene this time around instead.

How To Beat Eddie

Except Eddie wasn't joking, not this time. Follow after him into the meat locker for the boss fight against him to begin. It may not have been James' intent to goad E𒀰ddie into a fatal confrontation, but that's exactly what's happened.

Compared to the lethargy he has shown thus far, Eddie is immensely more motivated within the fight when it comes to defending his own life. Surrounded by darkness and massive slabs of meat, Eddie darts across the room like a bolt of lightning, easily able to take James by surprise.

Unlike most other enemies that relentlessly attack James once he's in their sights, Eddie has a touch more of a survival instinct. He will typically keep his distance from James, choosing to fire at him from a distance with his revolver.

Eddie's revolver produces a very large flash of light when he shoots, letting you more easily discern 💞his location.

The game recommends you use headphones every time you boot up the game, and this fight is a very good example of that. Eddie will constantly taunt James during the fight. His shoes will squeak as he runs around. The slabs of meat will creak and groan as she pushes through them. The game's sound profile makes it amazingly precise in tꦗracking exactly where these sounds come from, letting you find Eddie no matter where he is.

Once Eddie has been damaged enough, a fog will roll into the room, making it even harder to see. Eddie will get more reckless as well, moving closer to James to make his attacks and even whipping him with the revolver if he gets too close. Otherwise, the fight rem𒁃ains much the꧒ same.

Once he has taken another large chunk of damage, the slabs of meat will start to move around the room, meaning the cover they previously provided is no longer quite so safe.🐽 The fog leaves and Eddie's attack patterns stay the same.

The slabs of meat explode when attacked, removing them permanently but absorbing the bullet entirely.

In this final phase, Eddie will finally be defeated. There is no grand ending or final words either. He is just dead, another slab of meat in this locker. James will look at 🦋his own hands unsettlingly, and leave Eddie behind to be forgott🃏en.

Congratulations on finally killing a real human.
