For example, it makes sense to have a melee weapon and a ranged weapon, but you might find the cutlass to be useless when you're fighting across ships on the sea𒊎. In that case, you might keep your standard ranged weapon and switch out the melee weapon for a long-range rifle.

As of Season 12, there are five weapon types in Sea of Thieves, with only one of them being strictly melee and the rest being ranged. While each weapon variation largely works the same, there are dozens of variations in complete sets. You can change your weapons in the Armory on your ship or outside Weaponsmith's Shops.

While your cutlass is a pretty standard melee weapon, the choice of ranged options will ensure that you can keep the enemy pirates guessing when a fight inevitably breaks out. You are free to select any two weapon types for your loadout.

The ship only has one weapon that can be consistently relied on. The powerful cannons can make quick work of any beast or ship that you meet on the sea, given tha♈t you've prepared the right ammo ahead of time.

The harpoons are great for grabbing people and objects ou꧙t of the water, but they don't do damage.
