There are 5 journals per shrine for a grand total of 30 journals. Once you find all of these journals, you should receive The Mysteries Of The Sunken Kingdom commendation.
Now you need to travel to the nearest outpost. Head to the tavern and look for Larinna, who is usually leaning against a post outside. When you talk to her, you'll be able to buy The Legend Of The Sunken Kingdom voyage for 50 doubloons. Completing this voyage will grant you the Coral Curse.
How To Complete The Legend Of The Sunken Kingdom Voyage
When you begin this long voyage, you'll be given a golden Wayfinder Compass. If you've ever done a Wayfinder Voyage for the Gold Hoarders, then you'll be familiar with how this works. For those of you who haven't, you need to travel in the direction that the compass is pointing until you reach the island that it wants you to go to.
Upon reaching the first island, you'll dig up a Forbidden Coral Chest along with Humphrey's Notes. This chest is incredibly important as it's necessary to complete this voyage, so keep a close eye on it. If you have some friends tagging along, it may be a good idea for one of you to always be carrying the chest. Otherwise, you'll just have to leave it on your ship and hope other pira🌠tes don't come along to steal it. Digging up the chest will also spawn some Ocean Crawlers for you to fight, 💛so be prepared for that.
Now that you've got the Forbidden Coral Chest, you're going to have to track down three Forbidden Keys in order to open it. Follow the golden compass to another island. Get on the island, follow the compass to a specific spot, and dig to find the Scholar's Notes. You should now have a note that tells you to seek the Shrine Of Hungering. So head on over there.
Once you're inside the Shrine Of Hungering, you need to look for a Gold Hoarder's Medallion with an upside-down triangle inscribed on it. Solve the Siren Statue puzzles inside this shrine to raise the water so you can reach the upper level. Now look on the ground for a trail of gold coins. Follow that trail and it'll lead you to the medallion, which should be resting on a giant Kraken spine that looks like this.
Hop on the spine and grab the medallion. Now climb back up to the top. To the left of the giant Kraken jawbone with the Siren Window inside, you'll find a spot to place the medallion. This will open up a secret door to a room with the first of the Forbidden Keys and a Scholar's Riddle. Take the key back to your ship and use it on the Forbidden Coral Chest. Now look at the Scholar's Riddle and it'll tell you to sail to the Shrine Of Ocean's Fortune.
The Shrine Of Ocean's Fortune involves a lot of rotating platforms and jumping. To reach the next of the Forbidden Keys, you need to head up to the top of the shrine and reach the section where you use a steering wheel to rotate masts. Get up top, look for gold coins on the ground, and you'll find the Gold Hoarder's Medallion on some flat, blue coral.
Across from the crow's nest and above the Sunken Merfolk Statue is the spot where you need to place that medallion. That will open another door with the second Forbidden Key and a Scholar's Riddle inside. Take the key back to your ship and insert it into the Forbidden Coral chest.
The last key is located at the Shrine Of Ancient Tears. Sail over there, swim down, and get inside. This is near the end of the voyage, so🃏 if you weren't already lugging the Forbidden Coral Chest along with you, take it down into the shriไne this time.
Once inside the shrine, solve the timed button puzzle to open up the room that contains the fifth journal that you'd find here. On the throne inside is where you'll find the final Gold Hoarder's Medallion.
Now down and to the right of the flooded well you should see an area that has a yellow circle with an upside-down triangle painted above it. Place the medallion to open up a door and gain the final Forbidden Key. Use that to unlock the Forbidden Coral Chest.
Inside the chest, you'll find an odd triangular item called the Mysterious Ancient Key. There's an altar next to the flooded well that happens to have an indentation that's the perfect size and shape for this key. Insert it and sliding doors will open to reveal a hidden chamber. Go inside and you'll find a journal lying in front of a skeleton covered in glowing coral. Read the journal to uncover the truth behind the war between the Sirens and the Merfolk. This will complete the voyage and bestow upon you the Coral Curse.
This seems like a lot of work just to wind up cursed at the end, but at least now you've earned the right to hav𓂃e a magnificent purple and blue glow.
