Both of the core characters are celebrating milestone anniversaries in 2025, and TheGamer can exclusively reveal a very special collection Loungefl♑y has put together to celebrate.
My Melody has been a part of the Sanrio family almost as long as Hello Kitty. Introduced only a year later, the adorable animated rabbit turns 50 this year. Despite not arriving on the scene until decades later, Kuromi is arguably the second most recognizable Sanrio character after Hello Kitty, and she is celebrating her 20th anniversary in 2025. Since My M✤elody and Kuromi are kind of a package deal, and their landmark anniversaries coincide, Loungefly is celebrating both of them in one fell swoop.

Loungefly is best known for its high-quality mini backpacks, of course, which is why there's an $80 mini backpack headlining its ne🅰w Sanrio collection. The front of the bag has Kuromi and My Melody adorned in pink and black, covered in bows, and sitting atop a giant birthday cake. The pink and black motif continues on each side of the bag, and even the straps, with one pink one and one black one. The entire front pocket is the bottom tier of the birthday cake, with the characters perched on the top tier.

It Might Be Their Birthdays, But We're The Ones Getting Gifts
Even though the backpack is the headliner, it's not my favorite item from the new collection. That award goes to the crossbody bag that ꧑takes the birthday theme to the next level by literally being shaped like a cake which will cost slightly less at $70. The cake's design is similar to the one featured on the 👍backpack, just with Kuromi and My Melody's iconic pink and black ears being used as cake toppers rather than the characters themselves sitting on it.
If you want something to match your new birthday-themed Sanrio bags, there's also a zip around wallet ($40) featuring the two characters. Plus, the item I'm most likely to buy, a pink a🐟nd black jacket ($80) with the char𝓰acters standing in their respective color blocks on the back, and coming together on the front to form Kuromi x My Melody emblem on the chest.
Rounding out the collection is a set of pins, two each for each character, and two birthday cake designs - one for Kuromi, and one for My Melody. It's a mystery box situation so you don't know which pin you'll get, and each box costs $12. , hopefully in time for the upcoming Kuromi and My Melody🉐 stop motion series that's set to his Netflix later this month.
