While most dungeons in the game are fairly straightforward, there are a few where you can find yourself stuck on a puzzle, and Mechanical Maze is one♚ of them. To get past this one, you have to find four specific pedestals and open the final door before you can face the boss.

How To Reach The Mechanical Maze

Rune Factory Guardians Of Azuma map leading into the mechanical maze.

The first time you'll hear the mention of the Mechanical Maze is when you reach the Autumn Village and start searching for its god. Kai will talk to you about creating a festival that will drive the god out of hiding, and your first location to get the items ready for this festival is the Mechanical Maze. However, don't get fooled by the Mechanical Maze ℱa🍃rea in the Autumn Region itself.

You'll only reach the real maze after getting through the various doorways of the Mechanical Maze in the region. To do this, you simply have to look at the map as you'll see all the walls within the maze here. You'll notice that ☂some parts of this wall (colored in gray) are thicker than the rest, and that's your destination.

The thicker part of the walls in each room represents the doorways that will lead you to the next part.

After crossing the bridge above Path of Fallen💛 Le🦩aves and entering the maze, you can follow these directions to get to the main dungeon:

  • As soon as you're in the first room, take the stairs going up on your right to enter the next one and then the door on the left here.
  • Take the door on the left here and go all the way around the next area from your left. At the end, you'll see a door near the southern edge of the wall.
  • Past this, enter the door on your left, go forward for a bit, and then another door on your left in the middle of some blight.
  • After that, you'll find the last door on your right leading you to the entrance of the real Mechanical Maze.

As you're going through this maze, you'll have to battle a bunch of enemies up to level 23, so it's important to be prepared for that.

How To Beat The Mechanical Maze

The start of the Mechanical Maze is fairly simple as you'll find yourself in a room with a closed door and a red button beside it. Simply interact with the button and the door will open, leading you into the next couple of rooms where you'll have to battle a bunch of Tanuki and other enemies. The door﷽ in f𒊎ront will be closed again after two rooms.

Here, after claiming the chest in the left corner of the room, you'll see two lucky cat statues with a wallpaper in between on the right. Hit this♛ wallpaper with any weapon or Sacred Treasure and it'll open up, leading you into a room with a bunch of rotating wheels. You have to get through two of these rooms so that you can enter the next main room.

If there are enemies in these wheel rooms, you can just let them come to you first, defeat them, and then progress.

Once you've gone past the two wheel rooms and emerged in the main room on the other side, you can use the red button on your left to open the locked door you saw earlier. To open the other door leading you forward 🐈on the northern side, you can get close to the fan and press the ♐required button to use your Fan Dance on it.

The next couple of rooms are pretty simple until you reach the final door leading you into the boss chamber. You'll see four red lights beside this door, which means that you have to trigger four red switches nearby. To get these switches, you just have t💎o enter the surrounding wheel rooms:

  • First, head to the western wheel room on the map and you'll find the first button on the bottom left edge of this room.
  • Then, head out of this room and interact with the fan mechanism in the middle to rotate the room, connecting you to two more wheel rooms. From here, head to the lower room first where you have to defeat a few Tanuki and then activate the fans on either side to open the wheel room, where you'll find the second button.

You can go to the northern wheel room here as well to get the chest but it doesn't have any buttons.

  • Now, get to the couple of wheel rooms on the eastern side and you first have to enter the southern one by breaking the wallpaper. You'll find the third button here that will also unlock the fourth wheel room on the east.
  • Find the last button on the bottom right side of the last wheel room and you can then enter the boss chamber.

How To Defeat Big Boss Tanuki

Rune Factory Guardians Of Azuma running into the big boss tanuki fight.

As you enter the final room of the Mechanical Maze, the Big Boss Tanuki will spawn after a small cutscene. This boss has dual blades and the wind element as its weakness, so it's recommended to craft yourself a suitable weapon while having the Sacred Fan equipped before the fight. You can also eat some food to buff your damage since yo♓ur level will be similar to the boss' here.

Here are a few attacks that you can see▨ the boss🐲 do:

  • Raise its hand to summon four yellow orbs near its head, which soon move towards the target at a quick pace. It's recommended to create distance with the boss when this happens.
  • The boss also stomps around the battlefield constantly, which can also damage you. Similarly, it might sometimes throw its entire body on the ground.
  • When the boss drops below 50 percent health and recovers from its stun, it'll spawn a second Tanuki on the field. Both of these bosses will deal high AoE damage to your characters, so you have to get rid of the new Tanuki as fast as possible.
  • The boss will also start attacking with its tail and summoning waves of earth damage once it drops below 50 percent.

It's highly recommended to get the first few upgrades of your Sacred Fan abilities so that you can use them during this fight.

The general idea to win this fight easily is by dodging the boss' attacks with a perfect dodge, which slows down the time for a few seconds. Your character can't be damaged in this time, and if you attack the boss with charged attacks, you'll deal very high stun damage (white ba꧋r). It's important to focus on stunning the boss as this massively increases its damage 🎀taken.

You also get a lot of spirit bar (yellow bar below your health) progress as you deal damage during the time slow, which allows you to use Sacred Fan's Divine Dance: Tengu Winds ability as soon as the boss gets stunned and the bar below its HP turns red. This will easily take away over hal🌜f of its HP, and then you ꦛcan keep attacking it with your charged attacks until the boss dies.
