How To Reach The Village

Leon Kennedy approaches a cult symbol on the path to Pueblo in Resident Evil 4

When the opening cutscene finishes, follow the path straight ahead. You’ll have to loop around to the right to get past a barbed-wire fence; otherwise, the trail is as straightforward as it gets. You can inspect the dead deer on the right after passingꦛ through the first stone gate, but it’s unnecessary and there is no benefit to doinꦑg so.

Push through the dense foliage past the deer and crouch under the barbed wire on the other side. There’s nothing to find in the yard beyond, so enter the house through the front door.

Inside, the first door on the right contains nothing but a crude charm that serves to set the scene. Go down the hall to find a locked 🌊door; take a right to enter the kitchen. There, a cutscene will play.

After the cutscene, Leon’s combat capabilities are unlocked. Pick up the Hunter’s Lodge Key next to the dead Ganado and use it to unlock the door in the hallway. Enter the basement💦 and walk all the way to the end, where you&rs🅠quo;ll find Officer Castaño’s body.

Go back the way you came; when you reach the stairs, you’ll be met by the Ganado from before. If you’ve played the original Resident Evil 4, you might be tempted to use your knife to save ammo; however, this will give the Ganado an easy chance to grab you, so it’s far better to just shoot him.

When you get back to the hallway, you’ll see another Ganado at the far end. As you walk down the hall, look for a crack in the wall on your left. If you time it correctly, you can shoot the Ganado through the crack to get some early damage on him, then finish him as he rushes down the hall. There is a second Ganado in the room with the cruꦑde charm.

Alternatively, you can simply ignore the Ganados and enter the newly-unlocked room on the right.

Before climbing the stairs in the new room, open the cabinet for a Green Herb. Enter the room at the t꧟op of the stairs to trigger a ဣnew cutscene that will send you back outside.

leon kennedy finds a bloody bridge in resident evil 4 remake

Follow the path in front of you, and you’ll cross a bridge. Look for a barrel on the other side that you can smash open to get some Handgun Ammo. Enter the building to find a safe room; save at the typewriter and take the Gunpowder in the barrel next to the tabꦛle.

Exit the safe room through the other side; you’ll see some crows picking at a dead dog. Like in the original, shooting the crows before they fly off causes them to drop items.

It’s worth loading your save game from the typewriter until a crow drops a Ruby, since that means more money for ☂later.

Check the ruined shed to the left of the dead dog; there’s a drawer inside with some more Handgun Ammo. Pick it up, then follow the main path to the right. Crouch under the branch in your path and break the crate to the left to find some cash.

Watch out on the right as you approach the broken-down truck; the Ganados nearby will emerge from the brush as you approach. Keep your distance and aim for their legs and heads to conserve ammo.

The Ganado with the sickle will resurrect after dying if you dꦺon’t use the knife to finish him when he’s down.

Continue down the path, being careful to avoid bear traps on the ground. Approach the shed on the left carefully; there’s a Ganado waiting inside to ambush you. Once he’s defeated you can collect a Red Herb, a Flash Grenade, and Handgun Ammo in the shed.

Heal and reload now, because things are about to get hairy. Open the l🥂arge gate at the end of the path to enter the main square of the village.

How To Survive The Battle In The Village Square

leon kennedy approaches an unaware enemy in resident evil 4 remake

As you approach, you’ll be able to hide behind a wall and watch as the villagers execute the other police officer that you arrived with. When you enter the town square, the entire village will swarm you. Instead of rushing straight in, take the narrow path to the left of the observation point. You can sneak around to the side without alerting them, and there’s a Green Herb and a crate behind the building. Keep going along the wall, and you’ll be able to attack a Ganada from behind, killing her before she has a chance to attack or call the 🍎others.

If you stick around near where you found the Green Herb and took down the lone enemy, you’ll be caught. Keep moving along the path and duck into the shed on the left to give yourself a hiding spot and find some money in a crate. You can also look th♓rough the cracks between the bไoards to find a good time to make your next move.

There’s a Ganado hiding on the other side of the shed, blocking road forward, who will see you if you turn left or head toward the square when leaving. Instead, make your way back to the start point and sneak around the buildings to the right. On the far side of the stables are a crate that usually contains money and a cart with a Red Herb..

Be careful on the way back, as the Ganados will occasionally check the 🌠yard!

At th🍃is poiౠnt, there isn’t much you can do without triggering the fight.

Once the battle has gone on for You don’t have enough ammo or health to fight them all off, so you need to keep moving and take cover in buildings. Most of the buildings are dead-ends, so it’💟s easy to get cornered if you aren’t careful! Along the main square, each building has different features:

  • First building on the left - You can't enter this building yet. Attempting to do so will cause a lengthy animation that makes you an easy target, so avoid this building entirely for now.
  • First building on the right - Cow pen with wide open doors on both sides. Contains a lantern hanging from the ceiling that will set the building on fire if shot.
  • Second building on the left - Contains a locked drawer. Can be entered through the front door or the back window. A Ganado is hiding in the closet and will jump out at you if you get too close. He stays in the closet even after the church bells ring, so be ready for him after the horde fight.
  • Second building on the right - two rooms, occupied by several Ganados. The back room can be easily accessed by a window in the rear and contains a hand grenade.
  • Third building on the left - two-story house. The bottom floor contains ammo, a hand grenade, and a First Aid Spray, and the top floor has another grenade and a shotgun. The upper floor is the best place to make a stand, and you can jump through the window to reach the village rooftops from here. Look to the right after jumping through the window to find a gem!

💦If you enter through the front door, a brief cutscene will trigger and Doctor Salvador (see below) will automatically spa🦄wn!

  • Watchtower - The tower to the left of the church has a tall ladder that you can climb if you manage to reach it without being grabbed. At the top is a Green Herb, but the floor will collapse under you after you pick it up so you won’t be safe for long.

If you get overwhelmed, shoot the nearest Ganado in the face to stagger them. You can then perfor꧑m a melee follow-up, which will pus🐭h back the other Ganados nearby and give you a chance to escape.

Don’t bother performing knife finishers on downed Ganados. You need to maintain your knife’s durability to escape gr🎃abs, and there are so many enemies here that it doesn’t really matter how many you kill.

The Chainsaw Man

doctor salvador's introduction in resident evil 4 remake

Just under two minutes after the fight begins, Doctor Salvador - the infamous “Chainsaw Guy” - will emerge from the gate in the far left corner of the square. While he technically can be killed with the shotgun and grenades, it&rsqu🔯o;s much better to simply avoid him on your first playthrough. If he gets within arm’s reach of Leon, it’s an instant game over.

Avoid being grabbed by Ganados when Salvador is around - they’ll be happy to hold y🅠ou down and let the Doctor finish you off.

If both Leon and Doctor Salvador are behind the buildings on either side of the village at the same time, Salvador will destroy a nearby building, creating piles of rubble ♏that block some of your escap♛e routes.

Let the Ganados and Salvador chase you through the cow pen, then shoot the lantern hanging from the ceiling while they’re all inside. If timed correctly, it will kill several enemi🎀es but still may not be enough to stop Salvador.

Approximately two minutes after Doctor Salvador first appears, the village’s church bells w𒉰ill ring. Upon hearing it, the surviving Ganados - including Salvador - will stop attacking and leav🥃e.

How To Fix The Windmill

leon kennedy examines the broken windmill mechanism in resident evil 4 remake

After the Ganados leave, explore the village and pick up anything you didn’t grab during the fight, especially the shotgun. Check behind the church for a Green Herb, then take the road to the left, leading toward Salvador’s house; the left-hand building has a chest behind the door that contains a Ruby, and the one on the right has some Handgun Ammo to top you up🌞.

The chickens wandering the square will occasionally drop eggs, which ca🤪n be eaten to restore some health.

Once you’ve thoroughly searched the village, go through the gate in ༒the far ౠleft corner from which Doctor Salvador entered. The building beyond has a typewriter - save before continuing onward!

Leave the shed and carefully walk around to the back - be sure not to alert the Ganados on the other side of the fence. If your knife is still intact, you can use it to destroy the Blue Medallion hanging from the back of the building. Otherwise, you’ll have to shoot it, which will get the attention of the two Ganados around the corner; it might be easier to kill the Ganados first and then destroy the Medallion.

To the right of the locked building where the two Ganados were milling about, you can find a Green Herb as well as a locked box on an altar. Check near the windmill to find a blue R🌸equest Note, which will reward you with jewels if you♋ destroy all the Blue Medallions.

Approaching the windmill gate, you’ll see some barrels and crates with cash and jewels inside. There’s also a crate with a gem outside the building, to the left of the entrance. To the right is an iron door that you can open; beyond is a tripwire attached to a bomb. You can shoot the bomb to detonate it or crouch under the wire to evade the trap. If you get close enough to the bomb to inter♎act with it, you can safely disarm it.

Pick up the Yellow Herb in the room beyond and mix it with the Green Herb you found outside; use the resulting Mixed Herb the next time you need to heal and it will increase your maximum Health.

Climb the ladder to reach the windmill’s mechanical room, where a gear is missing. Take the shotgun shells on the shelf at the top of the stairs, then proceed through the hole in the wall to the scaffolding that connects to the locked barn near where you fought the Ganados below. Smash the crates near the window, then climb through the window to reach the inside of the barn. If the Ganada inside 🔴didn’t jump down to join the fight earlier, you’ll need to defea𒆙t her now.

Shoot the Blue Medallion hanging from the large window over the main door if you haven’t already, then ransack the barn for items; there’s usually cash in the barrel and ammo in the cupboard on the second floor, but be sure to collect everything before you jump down.

The Brute

a Brute standing in the doorway of the barn in Resident Evil 4 remake

When you drop to the ground level, a group of Ganados will break down the door, led by a hammer-wielding Brute. The hammer can take Leon from full Health to nearly dead in one swing, so watch for the timed dodge that appears when he takes a swing.

Since the leader charges into the barn before the rest of the Ganados, you can quickly take him down with four or five shotgun blasts. Once he’s down, shoot the padlock off the back door to give yourself an escape route and take the kitchen knife from the nearby workbench for some extra melee capability.

One of the Ganados will resurrect if you don’t finish him wi🌊th the knife - watch for enemies to twitch and convulse after they go♑ down!

After defeating the Ganados, finish cleaning out the barn’s items, especially the Wooden Cog that is used to repair the windmill.

With the Ganados in this area taken care of, you’re free to explore. Head for the barnyard and destroy the Blue Medallion in the cow pen by shooting it through the window.

the cask containing the first pearl pendant in resident evil 4 remake

Next, look for a small mechanical windmill over a trough of sludge. Shooting the container attached to the windmill will cause it to drop a Pearl Pendant, but be sure to hit it when it’s in the three o’clock position - otherwise, it will fall into the sludge, mಞaking it worth less when you eventual🧸ly sell it.

Finally, check behind the pig pen for a hand grenade, then look in the rafters inside for a Blue Medallion. Return to the main second floor of the windmill. Attach the Wooden Cog to the mechanism at the top of the stairs, then pull the lever to the left to open the portcullis below.

Before continuing, go out through the side to the platform behind the windmill. Jump down to the ground and break the barrels there for extra resources, then shoot the Blue Medallion hanging from the underside of the platform you just came from. Follow the path back to the barn. Open the chest on the left to get a silver flagon that you can sell for cash later - from the menu, you can even inlay it with gemstones to increase its value!

Shoot the padlock off the barn door to enter from the side, then proceed through the portcullis under the windmill. You can’t enter the building across the bridge yet, but you can take a trail along the left side to find some items.

How To Reach The Lakeside Settlement

leon kennedy is attacked by a villager with a knife in resident evil 4 remake

To the right of the bridge is the path to the lake; push the wagon with the dead cow out of the way and follow the trail. When you turn the corner, you’ll hear a Ganado shout from above; be ready to dodge as ♋he detonates a bomb that will cause rubb♔le to collapse onto the path.

After the explosion, two Ganados will throw hatchets at you from the bridge above while another sneaks up behind you on the trail. If you move quickly you can evade all three, but there’s a fourth enemy ahead of you on the path waiting to charge you with a pitchfork. Shoot her in the leg to halt her charge, then finish her off or keepꦫ running.

Walk through the tunnel at the end of the path to reach the Lakeside Settlement. This area is brimming with traps right from the start; the road first leads through a small shack that contains both a tripwire and a bear trap; use these to fight off the group of Ganados that wil💧l approach from the far side, then collect the items inside the shack.

Immediately past the shack is a bear trap where the trails c🎃onverge - be careful of this one, as the🌟re are Ganados waiting to throw hatchets and dynamite at you if you get caught. The Ganada to the right of the trap throwing hatchets has another trap directly in front of her, making her tough to approach.

If a Ganado has a stick of dynamite in hand, you can instantly kill them by shooting the explosive. Just be sure you aren't too close when you do so!

The Ganados with bombs will continue to throw them at you until they're stopped. One is behind a fence in front of the boathouse, to the right of the fork in the road. Another is on the wall to the left; you'll have to climb the ladder against the wall to reach her, so be sure to go while she's readying a new stick of dynamite so that she doesn't hit you on the way up.

Once the area is clear, shoot the padlock on the front door of the boathouse and go inside. Pick up the shotgun shells in the cabinet to the right, then head to the back room. There's a tripwire in the hallway that's too low to duck under, so you'll need to disarm it before proceeding.

In the next room, open the cabinet on the right to get some handgun ammo, and examine the photo on the center table. Push the bookshelf on the left side of the room and go through the hole behind it. Beyond is a Ganado trying to chop through a trapdoor with a hatchet - you can't sneak up on him, so shoot him while he's distracted to finish him quickly.

Break through the trapdoor and approach the wriggling sack i꧑nꦦ the chamber below; interact with it to trigger a cutscene and end the chapter.
