Ford's Backstory

Known as Andrew Ford, he was the founder of Ward 13 and one of a few groups of individuals who were rendered essentially immortal after encountering alien artifacts whilst trying to recover the Earth's World Stone. It all began when ancient alien writings were discovered on Earth and studied by top military 𝕴experts and scientists.

The strange writings spoke of where to find and how to use the Red Crystals, or “World Stones” to connect to other realms and travel between them at will. This could only be managed by connecting an individual known as a “Dreamer” to the crystals in order to manipulate the Crystal. However, this w🀅ould lead to humanity’s downfall in the long run.

Ford was one of the original expedition forces that was sent to recover the Earth's primary World Stone. Unfortunately, the tomb it was within collapsed, killing e🌳veryone inside including Ford and hi🐼s teammates.

However, for some unknown reason, they all suddenly reappeared elsewhere, completely healed and fine despite just horribly dying a few minutes ago. Ford was arguably the most impacted by this event as it made him immortal. But he would use this for his benefit for over a century, exploring dangerous worlds, dying, and then just continuing where he left off, although it was not all smooth sailing for Ford.

Ford’s Impact On Earth’s Downfall

Ford wasn't solely responsible for the Earth's downfall, but he did play an unwitting part in the process. He was unknowingly influenced by The Root. As the Earth dabbled in experiments involving Dreamers, an entity calling itself The Dragon began pulling the strings from the shadows. It was a dark creature that was manipulating both Ford and Dr. Harsgaard, a scientist who worked at Ward 13, guiding them to💯wards its own dark goals.

Over time, Harsgaard would push for more Dreamers to connect to the World Stone, with the end goal of having four of them at once. Though Chronos, an adventurer who sought to stop the encroaching darkness would try to interfere, he would unwittingly play into The Root's plans as well, becoming the “Fourth Dreamer” and opening a door for The Root to fully invade Earth.

The conflict following The Root's invasion of Earth wiped out over half the population of the planet.

Ford In Remnant: From The Ashes

Feeling somewhat responsible for the invasion of Earth, Ford set off from Ward 13 determined to rip the rotting Root out of the planet once and for all. He would travel for years, just as he did before the fall of Humanity, but unfortunately, he would disappear, with Ward 13 being taken under the care o🅷f his daughter, Ellen.

Ford would eventually be found years later on Yaesha by the protagonist of Remnant: From The Ashes where he would reveal to the Wanderer that the Dreamer was the Roots' connection to Earth and that this link must be severed.

What Happened To Ford In Remnant 2?

Ford would appear again in Remnant 2, though this time he takes a more passive role. Instead of seeking adventure or retribution, Ford, now several hundred years old, merely provides an immortal mentor role to travelers passing through Ward 13.

He asks the protagonist of Remnant 2 to seek out the location of Ward Prime, the site of the original Dreamer Project. Here he thinks lies the original Dreamer and the Root's last connection to the other realms.

What Happened To Ford At The End Of Remnant 2?

Ford is last seen right before the end of the game as he is disintegrated along with everyone and everything else as Clementine performs the Great Reset to the Universe. This happens after the protagonist of Remnant 2 travels to an Alternate Earth that the Labyrinth Guardian describes as the original source of the Root Infection of the multiverse.

It's there that a brutal fight that involves the Roots manifestation shifting reality and just reviving itself whenever it dies plays out. It’s an intense slugfest that, gameplay-wise, can be brutally hard if you go in unprepared, but there's no ultimate victor. Instead, it's decided that the only way to stop The Root from destroying the Universe is to reset everything.

The hope was that purging the Universe of the contaminant, then resetting things would work. Just like they had once been before in Universe 1.0 before The Root inserted the World Stones into Universe 2.0 in order to travel over. The reset would seemingly fix things for Earth 3.0. Though time will tell as it’s heavily implied that all the universal cycles within the Remnant series are part of a long-running simulation and this cycle will just repeat again and again.
