Red Dead Revolver is such a unique situation in the realm of video game franchises and IP. Most fans of Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 most likely don't even know about Red Dead Revolver. It was technically the first game in the series but narratively disconnected from its successors.

At the time, Red Dead Redemption was an unknown property, as it was a non-direct follow-up to the cult classic Red Dead Revolver. A sneaky way to earn some goodwill with players is with homages. This reference is directly from Aliens and makes complete sense when you hear it.

If John Marston is attacked by a wild animal while reloading, he'll utter the phrase "Game Over, Man! Game Over!" which is a line directly lifted from the script from Aliens. It also happens to be quite a meta moment in a video game.

Playing Red Dead Redemption 1 after 2 brings many of John's conversations into a new light. While they were simply exposition at the time, they're all direct references to the Van der Linde Gang's rise and fall. From Dutch's betrayal to Arthur's sacrifice, John keeps his sentiments vague but understood.

One reference that caught the Red Dead community by storm was an NPC wanting to explore The Grizzlies. It became a location people hoped to travel to in a sequel or DLC. In 2016, a leaked map contained the region, but wouldn't be realized for another two years.
