168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokemon Unite’s first ever major seasonal event is now live and it’s… okay. Good, even. Aside from the fact it includes yet another $40 skin - 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:which is absurd - it’s a relat🌳ively uninspired Halloween-themed affair filled with pumpkins and not much else. If it were completely banal, I wouldn’t care all that much - I predominantly play ranked matches and competitive hasn’t been touched. The thing that annoys me is that Pokemon Unite’s Halloween event isn’t banal. It’s bordering brilliance.
When ♍it comes to events like this - seasonal celebrations in video games usually designed to swindle even more cash from players - bigger is not always better. Instead, real excellence in event management comes from style and tastefulness. If you’re planning a snazzy Halloween soiree, you don&rsqℱuo;t need some all-new mode with Haunter and haunted houses. You just need to commit to the bit and have fun with it. Pokemon Unite, to some extent, does this - the issue is that it’s half-baked.
Aside from the Lucario skin, the biggest selling point for Unite’s Halloween evꩵent was a reskinned map kitted out with all kinds of spooky decorations. Unfortunately, this reskin♏ has been applied to Mer Stadium instead of Remoat Stadium. If you’re not sure of the difference between the two, the former is a shrunken, less detailed version of the latter and tends to stage shorter, less exciting matches. Basically, the Halloween theme is executed well, but done so within a poor map that stunts its ambition.
It’s not that the Halloween stuff has been ramped up to a million either - it’s mostly just a few Pikachu-shaped pumpkins dotted around the map. Held items are also replaced with pumpkins, which is a narrow but novel premise. Instead of having access to y🎐our Eject Button or Fluffy Tail, you can lob a Jack-o’lantern at your enemy, at which point they turn into a pumpkin and lose all of the Aeos orbs they’re currently carrying. The only move they can use in this form is Pumpkin Tackle, which doesn’t do a whole lot of damage and has a pretty hefty cooldown time. You can really mess someone up just by clocking them over the head with a giant fruit - yes, pumpkins are a fruit, I looked it up.
The problem with Mer Stadium is that matches are only five minutes long, there are only two towers in each lane, and leveling is accelerated to the point of purposelessness in terms of stealing neutral farms. The battles here are usually fairly frenetic, but they’re not imbued with any sort of consequence. Had the Halloween treatment been given to Remo🐓at Stadium, things would be different. I understand not wanting to take away everyone’s held items in ranked play, but even the standard, non-competitive mode would have made a huge difference. As it stands, Unite’s effort to get spooky is an unfortunately wasted one.
The rest of the event is less impressive. Again, the Lucario skin is literally forty dollars. I could get eight pints of Guinness from my local with that and come out with change. The limited-time pumpkin currency is obtuse - even if getting Greedent is easy enough for anyone willing to be frugal - and the rest of the Halloween cosmetics fall so flat I’ve forgotten what they are in the time between starting this article and💙 now, which isn’t very much time at all. From a microtransaction perspective, this whole event is a s🌼hipwreck even Mr. Briney would struggle to salvage.
The Halloween-themed changes to actual play though? Pretty good. Almost great. I’m not blown away by Pokemon Unite’s Halloween event, but I’ll say this much: provided it learns not to add another skin worth more money than I paid for a first-edition Tolkien book, I’m 💯pretty excited f🧜or the next one.
