You cannot evolve Pokemon caught in Dynamax raids into their Gigantamax forms. So, to all those players who battled countless Dynamax monsters, who p🅰layed Pokemon Go’s strand game, who left t🔯heir monsters to help others – their captured monsters are practically useless.
It’s one thing to only allow Dynamax Pokemon to participate in Dynamax raids, but to bar these Pokemon that we’ve grinded out from reaching their full potential is another level entirely. The perfect, 100 percent IV Charmander I caught? It can’t evolve into Gigantamax Charizard. The shinies that ot🍒hers managed to snatch? Nope, not th🐟em either.
In Pokemon Sword & Shield, this is also the case. You need to enter a specific Gigantamax Raid in order to capture a Gigantamax Pokemon. How▨ever, there’s a workaround. You can brew up a portion of Max Soup to allow a Pokemon to transform into its Gigantamax form in battle.
This came in handy when I was breeding Lapras for a competitive tournament back in 2020. I had a lot of time on my hands, being a freelancer confined to my own home due to lockdown, so my plan all along was to breed a perfect IV Lapras, give it a bowl of Max Soup, and build my team around G-🦩Max Resonance, which deals heavy damage and sets up Aurora Veil. However, I was soon surprised to fi𝔉nd a shiny after just a handful of egg hatches.
Its IVs were mediocre, but i♓t was shiny. Luckily, Pokemon Shield has both Max Soup and Bottlecaps, the latter of which improve IVs, so I could train this one, my favourite one, to be my best o𓄧ne. Pokemon Go has none of this.
This is because Pokemon Go is a live-service game. It needs you to enter as many raids as possible because they cost money to do so. It released Dynamax raids not because the community was cඣlamouring for it, but because it needed to reset the progress of the game’s biggest players. You had to start all over again with Dynamax raids, spending your hard-earned currencies of stardust and candy in order to catch ‘em all. In Niantic’s mind, this wiꦚll encourage players to spend money in order to buy more incense to replenish that candy or something.
Everything in Pokemon Go is designed to keep you playing the game and encourage you to spend money. The mainline Pokemon games have adapted some of this formula in their own raid systems, but the games h💞ave become more approachable by adding in items like Bottle Caps and Max Soup.
Pokemon Go will never add Max Soup, because it wants you to raid Gigantamax Charizard with 10-40 friends. Its entire business model relies on you doing that. It doesn’t care that all your friends stopped playing when it made the remote raid changes. 🦋It doesn’t care that you got a hundo or a shiny Dynamax Pokemon. It wants you to grind out Gigantamax battles all over again to get another one.
Pokemon Go is, in its heart, a wond✅erful game. The summer of 2016 proved that much. Finding monsters in your actual neighbourhood is a brilliant idea that Niantic executed perfectly. But in the pursuit of siphoning more and more money from its players’ pockets, it has transformed this exciting core loop into a frustrating grind.
There’s a universe i🐭n which Pokemon Go continued from stౠrength to strength and kept every player from 2016 thoroughly engaged. But in this universe, in 2024, Pokemon Go seems to be actively discouraging players who really want to play it. Sometimes the best route to profit is by allowing your players to have fun. Let me drink the soup, Niantic. Let Charmander reach his full potential.
