Coming up to the eve of the PS5, it’s only natural to reflect on the long history of Sony’s enormous gaming brand. The PlayStation has become home to many amazing globally recognizable brands and has released a wide and varied amount of first-party titles that have become synonymous with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:video game greatness.
With four generations of PlayStation consoles having gone by (and two generations of handheld consoles), many games are bound to fall by the wayside; e𒉰ven titles that are related to already existing mega hits. Many huge games have very bizarre spin-offs that don’t get the recognition that their video game cousins receive (sometimes deservedly so), and they deserve to be unearthed at the dawn of this new generation.
10 Killzone: Merc🌸enary
Making its home on the terribly under-appreciated handheld PS Vita, Killzone: Mercenary is a spin-off title of the popular first-person shooter series, which made its debut on the PS2. Killzone: Merce🐻nary had everything going against it: a first-person shoot💜er spin-off on a new handheld console that needed to implement touch controls. Turns out, Mercenary is one of the most well-received games in the series and on the PS Vita in general.
ꦏThe graphics were mind-blowing for a handheld console, and the controls were smooth and accommodating to the player. The story was nothing to sneeze at, but it certainly knew that gameplay was the main focus, and it shines in that aspect. Killzone: Mercenary is an absolutely💮 forgotten gem that deserves more attention, especially by fans of the series.
9 𝓰 Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Metal Gear Solid needs no introduction. The Hideo Kojima series helped introduce detailed and complex storytelling into the realm of video games, and it married them in such a perfect way that it sent a ripple through history. Metal Gear Solid is the b🌸enchmark for how cinema and video games have blended so well in recent years.
The 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:first Metal Gear Solid game released on the PS1 and it changed everything. Before its many sequels, Kojima released a spin-off called Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions, a game that removes 💖almost all story elements and focuses exclusively on throwing Snake into virtual reality scenarios to eliminate enemies. It definitely deviates from the original successes of Metal Gear Solid, but it is still a fine addition to the series, and a unique entr♒y in the series as well.
8 LittleBigPla🤡net Karting ꧋
Getting its start on the PS3, LittleBigPlanet was a very popular and c🐻hild-friendly platformer series that focused on creativity and fun by letting players create their own levels with increasingly detailed level creation tools. Unfortunately, after the second entry in the series, its popularity began to෴ wane.
The third entry was taken on by another developer, and while it was still decent, it didn’t capture the magic of the first and second games. Afterward, LittleBigPlanet oddly decided to create a kart racing spin-off that unfortunately faded into obscurity. 🐈The game wasn’t terrible, but it took away everything that made the series what it was.
7 ꦑ Uncharted: Fight for ꦚFortune
The PS Vita is home to many of PlayStation’s most bizarre spin-offs. One of which is Uncharted: Fight for Fortune, a game from Naughty Dog's highly cinematic action series that follows Nathan Drake on his quests to find 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:lost cities and hidden treasure.
With amazing gaming setups like that, what better way to continue the series than by making a spin-off card-based combat game? This game was almost exclusively ignored by fans and players alike, with any who discovered it left wondering why this was the direction that the series took. The PS Vita had a traditional Uncharted adventure (Uncharted: Golden Abyss) that worked out well, which made Fight for Fort🔴une an even more bizarre entry that faded into obscurity.
6 ꦛ PlayStation Move Heroes ও
The PlayStation Move era during the days of the PS3 was quite short-lived. The motion-based controllers worked quite well, but Sony was clearly trying to capitalize on the success of the Nintendo Wii. One of the🌊 main titles that released with PlayStation Move was PlayStation Move Heroes, a game that brings together three of PlayStation’s biggest mascots (Ratchet, Jak, and Sly Cooper).
Unfortunately, the game was generally ignored due to the limitation of needing the Move controllers to play. It’s too bad that these characters haven’t teamed up againꦡ after this experiment, but at least the PlayStation Move controllers have found a new home on the PlayStation VR.
5 inFamous: Festival of Blood 🎶
The inFamous series is a beloved PlayStation property that has had fewer entries than it truly deserves. In the widely praised inFamous 2, a DLC entitled Festival of Blood was released that, in the vein of Red Dead Redemption’s Undead Nightmare, ignores the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:main story and tells a non-canon side story about Cole McGrath and many others encountering vam☂pires.
The combination of superpowers and vampiric abilities was something that just needed to be explored. Many players let this one slip by on release, and it very well might be because the main story left the player feeling so emotionally broken that⛄ they couldn’t♔ handle a campy spin-off title.
4 Dirge Of Cerberus:✃ Final Fantasy VII ✨
Final Fantasy VII is lauded as one of the most important and influential video games ever made. With that distinction, Square🐽 Enix was bound to attempt to capitalize on the hype. FF7 had ma𝓀ny spin-off titles that circulated, but one of the strangest was without a doubt Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII.
This was t🅠he first and only shooter game in the series, which disappointed fans and critics who believed that a shooter game didn’t fit in the Final Fantasy series. RPG elements were added to appease long time fans, but Dirge of Cerberus didn’t quite stick the landing.
3 🐭 ཧ Killzone: Liberation
The PSP was PlayStation’s first outing in the handheld market, and it was a very successful venture. After the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:first Killzone rele⛦ased on the PS2, the hypeꦉ needed to be carried over to the PSP with Killzone: Liberation, an isometric shoot-'em-up action game that was critically well-received.
There has never been a title in the series like Libe🔜ration again, but based on its fun moment to🧸 moment gameplay, it may be a worthy venture to continue this Killzone side series. Could it have a place on the PS5?
2 Dino Stalker ♋
Light gun games are few and far between, with most of them b🐎eing reserved for the format of a spin-off game. In the PlayStation 2 era,🍌 Capcom released the Gun Survivor series – light gun games that were mainly based on the Resident Evil series.
Oddly, however, Capcom decided to create a Gun Survivor entry for Dino Crisis, a series that was in a relative limbo in the early 2000s. The game was decently received, but fans were concerned that this would be the beginning of the end for the series, and in many ways☂, it was.
1 🐎 Jak X Com🏅bat Racing
The Jak & Daxter series began as a child-friendly 3D platformer game and ended up as a Grand Theft Auto substitute for younger audiences. Thankfully, Jak 2 and Jak 3 pulled off that idea quite well and provided lovable characters, gripping stories, and satisfying gameplay. After Jak 3 had a perfect conclusion to the series, Jak X Combat Racingꦆ was released and confused fans all around.
Jak X Combat Racing is a surprisingly solid and exciting combat racing game with unique item c🅠ollection systems and a campy story. Unfortunately, it is an overlooked spin-off that deserved to be alongside the original three games when the Jak & Daxter HD collection was first released.
