As you continue through the games, you’ll encounter some new mechanics in Pikmin 2 that make a difference. Since you have more characters and Pikmin types to work with🀅, you may find it challenging to use them efficiently and get through this journey. After all, you must worry about collecting treasure while keeping the daylight in mind.
With the new mechanics and additional techniquꦜes you can apply to your Pikmin 2 playthrough, you should remember the following beginner tips. They’ll help you remember the tools at your disposal, so you’ll make the most of your days and collect enough treasure to save the business.
Play This Game Safer Than The First Pikmin
Even though you have a daily time limit, you don’t have a strict deadline to finish this game. In the previous game, you may feel like you must take risks to get parts to the ship in time, but you don’t have that🐲 problem in this game.
Since you don’t need to worry about getting ahead of parts or maximizing your days, you can take fewer risks and play it safe here.
For instance, in the previous game, you needed to react to new creatures or reset the day if you took too long, so you wouldn’t waste too much time. However, now you can take some time to watch enemies from a distance and understand what they do, allowing you to react to their at🌌tacks and movement🐷s.
The same applies when you run into new obstacles: instead of trying to tackle them head-on, you can take some time to think about the right solution. You can also take more time to look at your Pikmin 💜and determine which ✤ones you want to bring based on the map.
If you run into a hazard you haven’t before, such as the purple mist around a wall, avoid it until you unlock a new Pikmin to see if it can deal with the issue.
Divide Olimar And Louie While Exploring
Now that you have two captains, you can let them divide and conquer to collect more treasure. Since you can switch between them at a push of a button, you can send them in different directions to tackle various tasks.
Doing so can seem intimidating, so try to have one stay at the base first while the other explores. If you do that, the one exploring can collect treasure and enemies to return them🦩 to your base. Use any leftover Pikmin to attack a wall while theꦫ captain watches them.
Instead of having the other backtrack, the one at the base can collect the Pikmin by whistling at inactive Pikmin and plucking out new ones. That captain can then take the Pikmin to the one in the field, deactivate the Pikmin, and head back to base.
Following these steps will help you get used to having them separate, so you’ll eventually feel comfortable with having them explore in different directions. Doing so will help you identify these optimizations and see if you ꦰcan get more treasure.
Prioritize Purple And White Pikmin
As you encounter purple and white flowers, you can throw some of your Pikmin into them to turn them into purple and white Pikmin. These Pikmin stand out since you can’🅠t carry bottle caps and creatures to the Onion to get more of them.
Because of that, you get a limited number of purple and white Pikmin at a time. With that in mind, you should immediately turn some of your Pikmin into purple and white ones whenever you encounter them.
You should also keep them safe while out in the field. If you must c🐽hoose between saving r൲ed, blue, and yellow Pikmin or some of the purple and white ones, always save the latter first. Since you can quickly refill your reserves for the others, it’s not as much of a problem if you lose them.
You shouldn’t be afraid to use your purple and white Pikmin. They’re very powerful to compensate foܫr their rarity, so use them to your advantage. You just have to be more careful with them, so take fewer risks while they’re in the field.
When In Doubt, Whistle At Your Pikmin
As you play through the game, you’ll run into different situations, such as your Pikmin drowning, catching on fire, or getting poisoned. When this happens, you should use your whistle on them to draw them to you and try to clear the status ailment.
As long as you act on it within a few moments, you won’t lose your Pikmin. Whistling also works wonders at calling your Pikmin back to prevent them from dying to enemies. As long as the enemy hasn’t picke💎d up the Pikmin or crushed them, you can ca💜ll them to your side.
You’ll outrun most enemies in the game, so if you find an enemy challenging, just run away and approach with a different strategy. However, your P💯ikmin will keep fighting unless you use the whistle onꦯ them, so keep that in mind.
Whistling also helps you draw enemies away from groups. You can whistle over them to wake them up, causing them to chase you. You can then throw your Pik꧟min on them and take out the 🔯enemies.
Understanding Dungeons In Pikmin 2
Pikmin 2 introduces a new feature called dungeons, where you can explore various floors underground. These dungeons are filled with treasure, allowing you to w🧸ork towa☂rd the game’s ending.
However, dungeons have some unique mechanics that make them stand out in🐟 the series, so you sho💟uld understand them to make the most of your situation.
As soon as you enter a dungeon, you bring all the Pikmin in your party, so if you have one of the crew to the side with Pikmin, the Pikmin won’t go with you. However, they’ll be sent back to the ship, so if it’s close to sunset, you can enter a dungeon to save your Pikmin.
You can go through the dungeon or exit through the pause menu, saving your various Pikmin. If you haven’t completed the dungeon, you can go through it to make some progress. However, you should note that you can’t gain Pikmin in dungeons, so bring as many as you need.
You should also pay attention to the screen before you enter a dungeon. It lets you know the dungeon's name and includes four circles at the top. These tell you what traps you’ll enco🍷unter, such as fire, electricity, e✅tc.
Use Your Ultra-Spicy Spray Sparingly
You’ll encounter red fruit while you play through the game. If you collect ten of them, they’ll turn into an Ultra-Spicy Spray, which you can activate to empower all your Pikmin. You’ll collect a fair number of𓆉 them, but use them sparingly.
Usually, there are boss fights during dungeons, so save your Ultra-Spicy Spray for them or bosses you’ll encounter on the surface. Most bosses in dungeons will appear on the f🐎inal floor, making them easy to identify, so if you see a large꧒ enemy, activate your power-up.
When you are on the surface, you need to watch for unique monsters and check the map for treasures. If you see an enemy carrying a treasure, they’re most likely a boss ꦡyou must defeat to get it, so check your map whenever you run into a new monste♎r to see if it’s a boss.
However, in the game's second area, Awakening Wood, you have a plant that sprouts fruit for the Ultra-Spicy Spray. You can spend some days farming it while 🎀you collect treasure, giving you more freedom when using the spray.
For instance, if you struggle against certain enemy types, you can collect extra spray and use it for those enemies.ඣ As a gener♑al rule, ensure you always have a spray or two available during an emergency.
