Collectibles

Collectibles are the bread and butter of the Thieves Den, with animated cutscenes, music, statues, official ꩵartwork and more unlocking for display and viewing/listening over the course of the game. From the Palace Maker machine near the front entrance, you can customize the Thieve🅰s Den with different themes and props for display - depending on the props you put out, cognitive versions of your companions throughout the game might show up and make a few remarks.

In the gallery, you can unlock official art, ranging from promotional artwork for the series, the cut-ins for characters who get a critical hit, and concept art. These, along with the animated cutscenes, music, and all other artwork, can be purchased to view or listen to at any time with P coins, which you'll be receiving as you complete achievements and advance the game. You can change the background music in your Den by going to the music station and buying a new track.

Among the props you can set out are statues of various Palace bosses, your team's personas, and dioramas of a few of the in-game locations such as the diner in Shibuya or the fishing pond. Within the daily life segment of the game, these locations are often shown only from a fixed angle, so these displays give you a chance to examine all the scenery up close and find new details. A few things are only unlockable after you've completed a certain action - for example, you unlock a statue of the Reaper from Mementos after having defeated it in battle. Likewise, you can't unlock a diorama of a location you haven't yet visited.

Finally, by going upstairs, you can actually change your appearance within the Thieves den to that of your other party members - and run around the Den as Ryuji, Makoto, or anyoneꦚ else that joins the team. All you have to do is go stand on the tile with their portrait on it. You can even cycle between their Daily, Summer, and Metaverse outf💯its! The entrance to the upstairs wing of the Thieves Den is near the movie viewing area.

Tycoon

The Thieves Den also brings with it a card game, something all RPGs should aspire to have. Kick back at the table and play a game of Tycoon, best described as a strange fusion of poꦬker and Uno. Games consist of three rounds, during which each player tries to get rid of every card in their hand. Once someone sets a card down🌌, the person following must place a card of higher value down, or else pass their turn. In Tycoon, a 2 is the highest ranked card, while a 3 is the lowest. You might also, of course, get the Joker, which is a wildcard and will trump even a 2. And so will the 3 of spades, but not a 3 of any other suit.

In Tycoon, you can also choose to lay out a pair instead of one card, forcing anyone following to lay out a pair as well or else cede their turn. If everyone at the table cedes their turn, the round ends and begins again where it started last time. Another rule of Tycoon is that playing an 8 card instantly stops the round, so you can choose to end the set early to keep players who move after you from disposing of any cards. Since the numbers don't climb back down though, as soon as someone plays a card of higher value than an 8, you can no longer play it that turn.

Unless...you stage a revolution. By playing 4 of the same card (or 3 and a Joker), you can flip the value of each card and turn the game o♌n its head. At higher difficulties, your teammates will do this to you often. In addition, between sets of Tycoon each player is assigned a role based on where they finished in the previous set: Beggar, Poor, Rich, or Tycoon. Beggars and the Poor must sacrifice🦩 cards to their corresponding role (Beggars give up two cards to the Tycoon, while Poor players give up one card to the Rich).

Win in Tycoon, and you'll be rewarded with a handful of P coins to unlock more things in the Thieves Den. You can choose the difficulty of your game as well, ranging from casual to cuttrhroat. It's a fairly complicated game, so the best way to understand it is to get out there and play a few hands. Just don't expect your friends to go easy on you if you choose anything but casual difficulty.

New Achievements

There are 52 new achievements to shoot for in the Thieves Den, spread out across four categories: School Life, Confidant, Battle and Phantom. The game keeps track of your overall percentage completion as well as progress towards the individual achievements so you can see how close you are to unlocking them. As you complete achievements, the wall lining the Thieves Den will fill up with art representing them. These achievements carry over to NG+ playthroughs, so all the completionists out there can take a deep breath. Some of them were formally PSN trophies (such as reading every book) but have been moved here, making Persona 5 Royal somewhat easier to 100% if you're only looking at the trophies.

All in all, the Thieves Den is a great feature for people looking to see absolutely everything that went into the game, from the concept art to the soundtrack and the rest of your team's character models. It's a collector's hub, a place to unwind with your (cognitive) teammates, and a trophy-tracker all in one.
