Summary

  • Palworld has garnered a large and fanatical following, despite accusations of plagiarism and Nintendo investigating potential infringement. It's generating constant conversation.
  • The author, who isn't a dedicated Pokemon fan, doesn't feel the emotional connection to Palworld as it's billed as "Pokemon with Guns."
  • The author finds Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth to be a separate and enjoyable Pokemon parody game, with expanded gameplay mechanics that closely resemble the Pokemon series.

There has been so much to say about since its release two weeks ago, oh, so much. From its surprisingly huge launch, to discourse over the creation of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:‘Pokemon-like’ genre of games, to accusations of plagiarism, to the , Palworld has been driving conversation seemingly without pause. Despite alꦚl the drama, the game has garnered itself an unexpectedly large and fanatical following, especially considering it&rsqu൲o;s only a week old.

In a different universe, I probably would have be♋en excited to play Palworld too. Unfortunately, unlike many of my colleagues who are still dedicated Pokemon fans, I lost interest in the franchise once the games outpaced the anime back when I was still a child. I’ve never owned a Nintendo console and therefore had never played a Pokemon game to completion in my life, which makes it hardܫ for me to care very much about the games coming out now, especially knowing that the quality of each generation dips a little lower. I do have an affection for Pokemon, since I used to watch the anime and movies all the time – I watched the critically panned Pokemon the Movie 2000 regularly for years – but Palworld being billed as ‘Pokemon with Guns’ brings up no emotion in me whatsoever.

A Tribute, Not A Knockoff

Strangely enough, though, I’ve been enjoying a completely separate Pokemon parody in an entirely different game. I’ve been playing for a while now, and while some of its Pokemon mechanics were in the preceding game , the lateꦿst installment in the long-running series takes it to a whole new level. In Yakuza: Like A Dragon, you come across a Professor who’s studying what he calls ‘Sujimon’ – basically different types of special bad guys. He gives you a Sujidex that automatically records all the Sujimon you come across, so he can analyse it later for his research. Sound familiar?

Infinite Wealth's Best Stories Are About People Who Can't Help Falling In Love

Infinite Wealth is🍬 a game that emphasises kindness, romance, and putting your heart out there.

Infinite Wealth, a direct sequel to that game, has expanded on this. You’re no longer just recording the Sujimon you come across. There’s a whole gameplay loop around the Sujimon alone. After battles, or by participating in ‘raids’ (yes, like in Pokemon Go) you can catch Sujimon and add them to your Sujimon League party. Level them up in battles against other trainers or with items, and pit them against other trainers who you can find scattered around 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the game’s huge map. It 🔯even calls this quest Gen 2, following Pokemon naming conventions.

The battles aren’t exactly Pokemon-like, but they adhere to the same principles – I don’t want to explain the complexities of this particular mechanic because 168澳🌠洲幸运5开奖网:this guide has al❀ready done it better than I can. You’ll also come across members of a secret cabal of elite Sujimon trainers, who you can battle in order to weaken their hold over the Sujimon League, pro🎀tected by the Discreet Four. You can even send your Sujimon to a farm to level up, like ꦆa Pokemon daycare.

Spin-offs On Spin-offs

And it’s more than just the battles. There’s even a Pokemon Snap game, where you hop on a tram and take pictures of almost-nude perverts doing weird dances in bushes and on top of buildings for points that you can then exchange for items. It’s quite fun, actually. In fact, Infinite Wealth has so many homages to popular Japanese games, especially Pokemon, that I can only descr🅰ibe it as a love letter to Japanese games, which is completely in keeping with the game’s tender, optimistic tone.

In the end, Palworld was much less like Pokemon than everybody thought it would be. Infinite Wealth was the opposite for me, incorporating so many more elements of beloved Pokemon games that it became an inextricable part of the experience. Palworld isn’t really a ꦰPokemon-like, it just has characters that look similar, but the gameplay is very different. If you want a real Pokemon-like, Infinite Wealth is right here.
