In a long and surprisingly transparent (by modern Blizzard standards) blog post published last week, Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller shared tentative plans about reintroducing a 6v6 game mode through a series of tests. Keller makes it clear this may be temporary and might be a long way out, depending on whether or not the team can solve some important problems 6v6 creates under the hood. Still, he’s at least willing to acknowledge the possibility that the original Overwatch may have been a better game than Overwatc𓃲h 2. Maybe after 6v6 comes back, Blizzard can get started on bringing back everything else Overwatch did better.

In the blog post, Keller explains that Overwatch 2’s piꦇvot to 5v5 “traded some of the creativity in putting together team compositions for a more consistent and balanced experience”. He frames the backlash to 5v5 as a reaction to limitation in player choice, and he admits that Overwatch 2 is less chaotic and over-the-top. &ldquꦛo;There were moments and madness that could happen with twelve players in a match that just don’t quite coalesce when there are ten.”

Keller’s framing suggests Overwatch 2 is a more balanced and competitively viable game at the cost of the original Overwatch’s big bombastic moments and, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:while the current state of Over🌸watch 2 gives me some doubts about that angle, at least we’re all on the same page that people miss 6v6, or more accurately, that they miss wꦏhat Overwatch used to💦 be.

After ൲a few dozen games of compet🍌itive, the hero shooter has me wanting to walk away.

The sooner Overwatch 2 can revert back to Overwatch the better, and 𝔉I don’t just mean the team size. Why did we have to los♐e the end cards? Those trophies and stats added so much to the experience, especially when playing with friends, and I’ve always felt it was a mistake to get rid of them. Those end cards gave everyone a way to celebrate their performance even if they didn’t win or get the most kills, as well as a way to show respect to your opponents for a good game. That was a critical social feature I’d like to see come back.

Overwatch Season 11 Launch Depicting Tracer, Mercy, Genji In Special Hero Skins

Realistically, there are elements of Overwatch that are gone for good. At the end of the day Overwatch 2 isn’t really a sequel, it's a glorified transition to a free-to-play model. The battle pass and pricey cosmetics aren’t going anywhere. Overwatch 2 is always going to cost more and be less rewarding than the original despite technically being free-to-play. I know it sounds controversial, but I felt way less gouged by Overwatch when it had loot boxesไ. I actually enjoyed earning those, saving them up, and opening them with my friends as a reward after a hard-won match. I’d love a return of loot boxes, but that’s never going to happen.

It’s going to be a while before we see the 6v6 mode, and in fact, a lot of Keller’s blog post is dedicated to explaining why it might not work. Performance issues are a concern, since Overwatch 2 wasn’t built for 12 player matches, and there’s also some hesitation around queue times, which were a problem the original Overwatch never managed to solve. Keller says that if/when 6v6 comes to Overwatch 2, it will be in the form of limited time tests so that the team can collect data and determine the best course of action for the future of the game. I’m sure it's not easy to look to the past for inspiration, but the closer Overwatch 2 can get to original Overwatch, the better.
