Onimusha is coming back, and it wo♑n't be too long before fans can return to the world of feudal Japan.

As first revealed during The Game Awards, Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be coming in 2026 across 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:PlayStation and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Xbox Series consoles. It represents the first true return to the series since 2006's Dawn of Dreams on the PS2.

In a near-two-minute-long trailer, the game's protagonist can be seen absorbing the souls of defeated enemies, a series tradition. Then, some bombastic swordplay can be seen, including some 💎unique finishers, before a sequence of a boss fight rounds out the presentation.

It isn't a super long look at the game, but enough to show the series' glow-up from the early PS2 days to full 4K resolution. It may be too early to tell, but it appears that the elements tha🙈t made the series so revered among fans, such as the ability to absorb souls, along with the various mini-boss encounters, will be present come 2026.

Per a pr⛎ess release from Capcom, Way of t🅰he Sword will take place in Kyoto during the early Edo period. Historically speaking, it was a time for peace in Japan. However, as things often go, bad things are happening, and Kyoto has been infested with Genma, the series' main enemy. From there, "a lone samurai armed with the Oni Gauntlet engages in fierce, blood-soaked sword fights with these hellish creatures from another world."

It's Been A While Since We've Seen Onimusha

Originally released in 2001𒁃, Onimusha quickly became a massive powerhouse for Capcom and the PS2 generation. Beginning with Onimusha: Warlords, Samurai's Destiny was released a year later in 2002.

After that, the seri🐲es went in a different direction. First, there was a tactics-style game on the Game Boy in 2003, followed by a fighting game called Blade Warrirors. That said, a year later, things returned to nor🐓mal with the third title, Demon Siege.

2006's Dawn of Dreams was the last true game. From there,🤡 the series basically went dormant, aside from some mobile titles. However, in 2018, Warlords was re-released and remastered for the modern generation. At the time, it gaꦗve fans hope that the other titles would also make their way to current-gen, however, that was not the case.

And while getting those old games would still be nice, a brand-new title is about as good as it gets.
