I played more than 20 games at PAX West earlier this month, and for some reason, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Infinity Nikki is the one I can’t stop thinking about. It’s a bizarre game aimed at an audience that I would never include myself in. A gacha-infused dress-up game about grooming animals and catching bugs with a net? It’s the kind of thing I’d noꦺrmally give a respectful nod to from a distance, and then carry on with my business. But my 30-minute appointment to play Infinity Nikki turned into an hour of bliss, and now I can't stop thinking about unlocking stupid pretty dresses for Nikki to wear. What is happening to me?
Infinity Nikki is the fifth installment in the Nikki series, which sounds made up, but the first game that’s more than just a dress-up simulator with a story loosely wrapped around it like a silk scarf. Infinity Nikki is a dress-up game, but it’s also an open world 3D action platformer with some light combat, minigames to master, and collectibles to hunt down. It doesn’t have the tightest or most inventive platforming, 🦩the world isn’t all th𝓰at exciting to explore, and I couldn’t tell you a single thing about the story, but it has a lot of dresses, as I mentioned, and apparently that’s doing something for me.

Infinity Nikki Has Thoroughly Stolen Barbie's Thunder
After playing it at Gamescom, I know Inf𝔉inity Nikki🥀 is the dress up game of my dreams.
When I started playing the nice PR rep working the booth gave me a little tutorial. She didn’t show me any of the controls, where to go, or what to do, but she did open up the dress menu to show me all of the different outfits I could choose from. Then she picked up - a flowy, cornflower blue outfit with lots of overlapping sheer layers - and zoomed all the way𝓡 in to show me the fine detail in the material of the fabric. “Boy, they sure know their audience,” I thought to myself with a bit of an eye roll. I then spent the next 60 minutes collecting dresses and carefully inspecting every detail of each fabric.
Dress Up With A Purpose
Infinity Nikki justifies the dress-up gimmick in ways I’ve never seen before. Normally when I play gꦆames with different outfit choices I’ll pick the one I like and rock it for the next 20-30 hours. I never get sick of the look or consider changing it up, except in Marvel’s Spider-Man, which I’m now realizing has kind of been a dress-up game all along.
You don’t just pick a dress and wear it in Infinity Nikki though, the dresses you equip become part of a transforming wardrobe. Every action Nikki does changes her outfit, so while you’ll have one dress on while you’re walking around, you’ll instantly switch to another dress when you use her dash. Double jump, change outfits. Glide, change outfits. Fix the wiring so the frog people that live in the sewer can get their power back, chan𝄹ge outfits. The whole game is 🧸a non-stop quick change act just as thrilling as the one from America’s Got Talent I see on TikTok all the time.
Theꦅre’s a gameplay incentive to collecting dresses, of course. You earn various currencies and experience points to unlock dresses, and unlocking new dresses increases your stats, while they also have different characteristics (like Handsome) which are needed for specific challenges. Tꦬhat seems to break down in more complex ways than I expected, based on what I saw from the skill tree. For example, each of Nikki’s job’s has its own progression track that unlocks its own set up dresses, so every time you groom animals, catch bugs, fish, or fix something electrical, you’ll be working towards a different dress upgrade. I don’t care how unhinged I sound right now, I’m fully Nikki pilled.
Alright, How Much Is All This Going To Cost Me
The big question mark is the monetization, and there’s good reason to be worried. The whole Nikki series up to this point (if it does indeed exist) is the same old mobile gachapon swill, slot machines disguised as video games, and there’s some evidence that Infinity Nikki is just as predator൩y. While I didn’t see any in-game store yet, this free-to-play game (which is coming to mobile, PC, and consoles) has around a dozen different types of currencies, calendar bonuses, log-in rewards, and daily challenges. Not things you typically see in platformers, definitely things you normally see in mobile game money pits.
It remains to be seen, 🐷so for now I get to live in blissful ignorance about the game Infinity Nikki could be: a relaxing adventure where you get to save helpless animals and collect pretty dresses.
