When your journey brings you to Blackfell, you'll find turmoil brewing among the survivors residing there. With the replacement of the previous mayor, people have been at odds with each other and you'll be asked to he🔯lp solve their issues. This culminates your main quest as a meta-human and may be your toughest battle yet.
How To Start The He Was Here Quest
To begin the He Was Here questline, you need to head to Blackfell. This is located in the northern section of Red Sands, which is right above the Iron River area.
The Red Sands area is where Deviants of a higher level roam. It's advisable that you enter this area after you hit level 40.
When you get to Blackfell, you'll find two individuals fighting by the entrance. These two are Josh and Chris, and you'll get in between their argument. After speaking with them, head inside.
Look for a man named "Old Bones" Dennis. He's in a red building inside the settlement. When the dialogue options come up, select "Speak to Dennis Mobley". He'll tell you to send a message to Trent, who is the current mayor of the settlement.
Next, head to Trent's office. To get there, head up the steps to the left of the restaurant. Once you get to the top, you'll see some blue structures that have been turned into an office. Head inside to find Trent.
Inside, you'll find Trent standing in the corner of some bookshelves. Interact with him and select "Talk to Trent Palmieri". While you're discussing the current predicament of his people, Pauline wil🐽l step in to offer some help.
Head back downstairs and go into the restaurant to find Pauline. She'll explain that the issues may be related to former mayor Ted Holt. She'll then mark a few locations on your map for you to investigate.
How To Find Every Marked Location
The first location that Pauline marked is in the Blackfell Oil Fields. This is east of the Blackfell settlement. The marked area is right beside a large w🥀arehouse.
There are Deviants in the area, so make sure to clear them out🎉 so that you can carry out your investigation safely.
When you get to the correct spot, a memory will play out. Listen to the whole conversation and the sec💦ond marked location will appear when it's done.
Your next destination is the Blackfell Fallen Zone. This is right outside the Blackfell settlement.
The marked spot is inside the Central Hospital in the small town. This is a red-brick buiꦉ🌼lding sitting along the northern edge of the town.
Head inside to find the correct spot and listen to the next memory play out.
While listening to the memory, several Deviants may come charging at you. Be prepared for a short battle while you're waiting for the memory to end.
Given the close quarters, you may find an automatic weapon to be most effective in fighting off the Deviants.
Once the memory is done, the final location will appear on your map. The next location is 73 Source Extraction Point. This is a Rosetta facility west of Blackfell.
The marked location is right by the entrance of the facility where three Rosetta soldiers are standing guard. Let the memory plaไy out fully, then you'll be directeꦜd to where to proceed.
Go inside the facility and make a left. Go all the way up the long slope ahead of you. When you reach the top, you'll find a small building on your righ🐭ജt.
Go inside the building and make your way down the staircase. You'll find a large basement at the bottom where Rosetta soldiers are roaming. Defeat them to safely get to the next location.
The basement has a Mystical Crate and a Weapon Crate inside its rooms. Make sure to open them🏅 once the c𒉰oast is clear.
When you're ready, go inside the elevator in the corner of the basement. Press the button and head to B5.
How To Outrun The Deviants While Looking For Dennis
When you reach B5, you'll transform into Ted. You'll then be tasked to look for your friend Dennis.
Move forward towards the quest marker. Along the way, you'll see a frozen Deviant that you can't shoot. Whꦆen you moꦏve past it, it will start chasing you.
If you turn to look back at the Deviants chasing you, they freeze up for a few seconds. Make your escape during that window to avoid getting cau🌳ght.
Head to the end of the hallway until you reach a point blocked by some black mass. Shoot at it until it dissolves, allowing you to go through.
You'll find yourself in a small room with a computer desk in the corner. Head towards the desk and grab the Rosetta V1 Access Card on 🐟top. You'll then need to head back the ﷽opposite way.
Keep going forward while making sure to look back before the Deviants chasing you get too close. There will be more Deviants along the way, so yo🤪u'll have more trouble on your hands as you make your way th💫rough.
Along the way, you'll need to open a few doors. Make sure you have enough distance between yourself and the Deviantsꦑ so that you ♏don't get caught while trying to get the doors open.
At the very end of the chase, you'll find a spot marked in red. Stand on top to end the chase sequence and watch the culmination play out.
When you're done, leave 73 Source Extraction Point.
How To Avoid Getting Caught By The Deviants
If you're having trouble outrunning the Deviants while looking for Dennis, there's a very simple solution. Eat a Transformation Cookie in order to turn into an everyday object.
The Deviants will completely ignore you and you can go through t🍒he entire sequence without a si🧸ngle pursuer on your tail.
You'll turn back to your original form when you pick up the card and when you shoot the blocking black mass, so make sure to bring several Transformation Cookies with you.

After discovering what happened to Ted, activate the Rift Anchors located around Red Sands. You'll then be able to fight the Forsaken Giant in the Forsaken Monolith.
The fight against the Forsaken Giant can be challenging when done solo. Consider building a party of four and taking on this boss together.
After defeating the Forsaken Giant, head to Mitsuko's space and speak with her. Then, head back to Blackfell to inform everyone about what happened.
