Every merchant worth his salt's got an origin story, and Partitio's is one of the finest. We'll guide you from beat to teary-eyed beat as a young boy becomes a man and that man discovers his self-made mission.

Flashback Phase: Prelude

Partitio Octopath Traveler 2 Childhood Scene

Partitio's first chapter starts off a little differently from most. Rather than leaping straight into contemporary action, it begins with a series of scenes establishing what life was like for the guy growing up, and how Partitio and his father got their start in the town of Oresrush. In this first scene, Partitio's just eight years old. You'll meet Papp, Partitio's aptly-named father, and Roque, Papp's business partner.

Once Papp enlists little Partitio to go purchase a piece of silver, head down the hill and chat everybody up. This will help you to grow accustomed to Partitio's 'Purchase' Path Action, which lets you buy items from folks throughout the world. There are a few exceptions to the rule, but by and large, anything can be bought - so long as you've got the leaves for it. The person with the item you need - 'Dubious Silver Ore' - is a male merchant.

Partitio Octopath Traveler 2 16 Years Old Scene

Hike back up to Papp for some more scenes. It won't be long before the plot skips ahead eight years. Partitio's 16 at this point! Enjoy the fast-paced auctioneer's lifestyle. The Lump of Silver will sell for 2,000 leaves.

We're still in flashback territory, since the grown-up Partitio we'll get to know soon is 24 years old. But anything you buy at this point will be reflected later on, and what's more, there are some battles coming up with teenage Partitio as the playable character, so do feel free to spend some of this. The peddler outside the item shop has a Shortbow for 400 leaves. It's 800 at the weapon shop, so snag it from the peddler instead. We also grabbed a nice Cloth Hood from the guy in front of the tavern.

Flashback Phase Two: Hired Help

Partitio Octopath Traveler 2 His Gang Versus Griff's

Head home after you've finished spending some of your coin. You'll soon learn there's a gang stirring up trouble over at the silver mine. Partitio's not going to let this continue, so he wants to round up his own crew and set things to rights. We're now introduced to Partitio's nighttime Path Action, 'Hire'. Basically, he hires people to tag along. There's no set limit on how long they stick around; it's usually up to you to let them go or replace them with somebody else.

Mind you, things are a little different this time, since we're technically in 'the past'. Whoever you hire for this early engagement will have left Partitio's service in the upcoming (second) eight-year time skip, but so it goes.

You can grab whoever you like, really. Just note what they're capable of doing - the user interface for the 'Hire' screen will showcase their abilities. That said, there is a powerhouse here in Oresrush, and if you want to really trivialize the next section, he's your prime pick. The man designated as 'Laborer' on the balcony atop the inn, which can be accessed by looping around the building's left and climbing the stairs, is very strong. He's also 1200 leaves to hire, however. Choice is yours!

This won't matter for right now, but keep an eye on how some hired NPCs can affect shop situations. Once we have a full battle party outside these origin chapters, we love to have somebody tag along who impacts how much you're paid for selling items, for example. Some folks more than pay off their hiring costs this way with bonuses as steep as 50 percent more leaves per sale.

Partitio Octopath Traveler 2 Honest Work Giff Scene

When you're ready, go east outside of town to enter the silver mine. Partitio's pretty weak right now, so you may need to rely upon your hired partner to help coast through these early fights. Consider leveling Partitio up to around five or six for now. Snag the Healing Grape in plain view on your way up the route, which is quite short - you'll encounter Giff and his flunkies quickly.

Even if you're still at a lower level than five, you shouldn't have much difficulty with these guys. Giff's thugs are both weak to polearms, so pick one at a time and smack them a few times with one until they're broken, then finish the job.

Partitio Octopath Traveler 2 Roque Leaving Oresrush

Return home to find Roque leaving Or👍esrush (and ☂his companion Papp) behind. He wants Partitio to tag along, but our young buckhorn politely declines. We soon flash-forward a further eight years to present day.

Town Phase: Partitio's Last Stand

Partitio Octopath Traveler 2 Beef And Veggie Cowboy Bebop Joke

From hereon out, events run roughly contemporaneously with the rest of the game. The landowner deviously re-purchased the town and milked everyone dry. We need to get poor Papp some medicine, but nothing's easy anymore.

Climb the stairs up to the top of the item shop and go down the staircase. Head down the ladder - there’s a Light Nut in a treasure chest beside the shopkeep now. Then, head to the tavern. Purchase Papp's Medicine from the apothecary here at the tavern. A scene will trigger involving the hard-times team who once followed their bright-eyed boss Partitio wherever he went. Giff appears to revel in their despair. We're in agreement with Partitio that he needs to pay for his role in this, especially after that bad lemonade joke.

Bring the medicine back to Papp, then prepare to pick another hiree. The Tavern Assistant is outstandingly strong, but at 5,000 leaves, almost certainly out of your financial range right now. No worries. We went with the Townsperson who stands where the Laborer did in the previous phase; her 'Mental Augmentation' skill boosts Partitio's Ember spell rather nicely. There's no best pick here beyond the Tavern Assistant, though.

Dungeon Phase: Giff's Manse

Partitio Octopath Traveler 2 Crossing Mine Track

Go back to the mine. You'll be able to progress past where things paused to a halt in the past; there's a mine track bridge (see above) that can be crossed from left to right. Grab the Light Soulstone from the chest on the left. Across the tracks and lower down is an Inspiriting Plum. Head back up, through the tunnel, and you’ll emerge in front of Giff&r♑squo;s Manse.

Fights are a bit tougher in here. If you have enough JP for a skill, get Ember, enemies are commonly weak to it. (You should definitely do this if you chose the Townsperson NPC as your partner like we did.) Use Rest as often in battle as you need, ♔there’s zero downs🃏ide.

Partitio Octopath Traveler 2 Giff's Manse

Go right from the entrance and get the Healing Grape, then go left and forward. Now you’re in a big area with a fountain at the center. To access that treasure chest, head up to the northern door, but hang left instead, (There’s a Small Silver Ore behind that door.) Wrap around the opposite side of the fence from here for a handy-dandy Bronze Shield. The next treasure chest is a Leather Helm, hike up the staircase to the right in t🌠he main area, the second room has it.

The room after the one with the Leather Helm has a save point and peddler, meaning the boss is coming up shortly. If you can afford the Copper Chestplate, it’s a fair investment, though hardly necessary. The scenes with Giff in the room ahead shine some light on all this darkness; the landowner slipped the bad deal in after it was signed. Let's vent our frustrations on this bully now.

Boss Phase: Giff

Partitio Octopath Traveler 2 Giff Boss Fight

Time for Partitio's first boss fight. And if Parti's your protagonist, then it's time for your first boss fight in all of Octopath Traveler 2! Either way, there are harder entry bosses than Giff, for sure. You will be going head-to-head against not just the titular bad guy but his two trusted sidekicks as well, but none of them hit hard enough to really put the squeeze on you without ample time to heal up.

Just don't forget to summon your hired compadre on the regular. The guy in the above screenshot who you can see is weak to Bows is also weak to Fire, so a Mental Augmentation round on Ember will set him dead to rights. The other crony is weak to Polearms, so hit him hard with whatever you've got in that department. We recommend taking both thes😼e guys out before going after Giff himsel♋f.

If you get rid of both lackeys, Giff immediately ‘takes aim’, so heal one turn and defend the next to minimize impact. He’ll use attacks like Hasty Throw and Burn to Ashes soon. Hasty Throw hits for 30-50 damage three or four times! Giff is weak to Polearms, and our advice is to stock up on 'charges' so that you can unleash a five-hit Boost after you've broken him. A couple of combos like this and Giff's done.

Partitio’s latent power will eventually be introduced: Hoot and Holler. This in✤stantly replenishes BP. Build your BP up to hit and break him with multiple Polearm attacks, then🐎 use the latent power to combo all over again - this might well finish him off.

Partitio Octopath Traveler 2 Devil Called Poverty Scene

Enjoy the remainder of the chapter! It sets things up for Partitio's quest rather nicely, if we do say so ourselves. If only we could eliminate that devil called poverty from our world as well.
