168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Octopath Traveler 2 follows its predecessor in introducing players to an all-new cast of eight protagonists whose stories serve in a largely standalone capacity. But whereas Octopath Traveler's decisions effectively started and ended with 'which of the eight do you want to designate your lead?', Octopath Traveler 2 finds a few clever ways to keep the questions coming in unexpected fashion.

There is perhaps no better example of this than the choice we must make at the start of Ochette's story - a choice between a jackal-like and owl-like companion. It's a bit like picking a Pokemon, and there's just cause for either choice. We'll help you narrow it down to one or the other.

Akala And Mahina Serve The Same Potential Roles

Akala and Mahina, the 'lajackal' and malamaowl' respectively, both play critical roles in Ochette's storyline. One will be a trusted companion. The other will be met with later in the tale - we don't want to spoil you on how and why. The important thing to understand is that whoever you choose at the start will serve the friendship role, while the unpicked creature defaults to the more mysterious role instead.

In other words, what you're really deciding is the order in which the above occurs - no matter what, you're going to see them both again, but the one you let be your 'starter Pokemon' if you will is going to have substantially more screen time. It is, after all, chosen to be Ochette's sworn friend and boon ally. Put plainly, picking Akala isn't going to give Mahina a different tale from what Akala would have had if you'd plucked Mahina instead, and vice versa.

Akala And Mahina Reveal Separate Weaknesses

That said, Ochette's potential allies serve separate roles in battle. Though both follow the same general notion, which is that they'll attack whilst simultaneously revealing an enemy weakness, Akala's attacks are physical and reveal weapon weaknesses, whereas Mahina's are magical and reveal elemental weaknesses.

Since you will ultimately recruit everyone in the game, there's not much point in fixating too heavily on whether you'll want extra physical or magical offense. Even so, we'd give a slight edge to Mahina here, since Ochette herself primarily attacks physically. The more important query likely pertains to whether it's more handy to learn a weapon-based weakness or an elemental weakness. We believe elemental weaknesses are more worthwhile knowledge.

This is because most foes in Octopath Traveler 2 with numerous weaknesses tend to have more weapon weaknesses than magic ones. You're statistically likelier overall to strike upon these physical weak points as a result. Plus, there are more weapon-focused characters than predesigned spellslingers like Osvald. You'll probably be learning weapon stuff faster because you'll have more opportunities in which to use them.

All of that is to say, all things being equal, from a gameplay perspective Mahina is slightly preferable over Akala.

There's No Wrong Choice

While our guide veers in favor of Mahina, between the two of us here at TheGamer who are primarily covering Octopath Traveler 2, one went with the owl and the other was happy with the jackal. You're getting different voice actors from them, so the vibe will shift a bit. But between that and the battle bits, there's no genuinely bad choice; you'll still get plenty of mileage out of Akala snuffing out weapon weaknesses, even if it's not quite as routinely valuable.

In the end, here's the real question, dear reader: do you like owls or jackals? If you answered both, flip a coin. Ochette's going to have a wonderful BFF with her new pal no matter your choice.
