She believes a 𒆙conspiracy is unfolding around her, with whispers of betrayal and plans for her demise. In this climate of fear, she has no one to turn to, but thankfully, Sheogorath has pointed you to check on Syl. Now, she looks to you for help, hoping you can uncover the truth and get to the bottom of the plot that threatens her life, whether it’s real or not.

This quest is part of the Shivering Isles DLC.

How To Start The Lady Of Paranoia Quest

During the Understanding Madness main quest of the Shivering Isles, Sheogorath will ask you to check on the Duchess of Dementia and see if she needs help.

Make your way to the House of Dementia and speak with the Duchess Syl to receive your assignment.

This will begin the Lady of Paranoia quest.

As the quest name suggests, Duchess Syl is very paranoid and convinced that someone is going after her.

As a result, she will appoint you as the Grand Inquisitor and require your help in figuring out the truth behind all these suspicions.

How To Complete The Lady Of Paranoia Quest

Player speaking to Herdir - Oblivion Remastered

As the first person to talk to, you will be directed to Herdir, who can be found at the House of Deme🎐ntia's Torture Chamber.

During your conversation with him, he will be happy to help you and will follow you around as you investigate the conspiracy further.

Among the first few people you can interrogate is Kithlan, located in the throne room. You can interact with him and command Herdir to torture him. After a few attempts, he will reveal that you should check with Anya Herrick.

Anya is also located in the throne room as well, and she will need a bit of Herdir's persuasion in order to make her talk. When she does, she will reveal another name involved: Ma'zaddha.

At this point, there is no direct lead or e🔜vidence about Ma'zaddha, so you need to make your way to Crucible and speak to people in order to get a lead.

You can speak to anyone and use some of Herdir’s ways of persuasion to get information from them.

If you go and speak to Ma'zaddhওa directly, he will refuse to take accusations and demand evidence of what you are claiming.

Player speaking to Ma'zaddha- Oblivion Remastered

One of the townspeople will reveal that Ma'zaddha has secret meetings with a guard named Nelrene during the night.

So, wait until after midnight and make your way to the sewer gate. Ask Herdir to wait somewhere a bit farther away so he won't be seen, and then eavesdrop on their conversation.

Player is eavesdropping on Ma'zddha and Nerene - Oblivion Remastered

You need to be very careful not to be seen duri𓆉ng the eavesdropping. If you get caught, you will have👍 to wait for another night and try again. The best approach is to use an invisibility spell during their conversation.

Once the conversation ends, confront Ma'zaddha and tell him that you overheard what they were talking about.

This will lead to another confrontation with Nelrene, who won't be easy to convince. However, a bit of persuasion from Herdir will get her to reveal the name of the leader: Muurine.

Even with this confirmation, you still need evidence before going after Muurine. Therefore, wait for one more day and make your way to Ma'zaddha’s house.

When you enter, you will find the poor man dead. Loot his corpse to obtain the keys.

With these keys, head upstairs to Ma'zaddha’s room and open the cabinet to find Ma'zaddha’s Crinkled Note and Nelrene’s Ceremonial Shortsword.

This is more than enough evi💧dence to confront🐻 Muurine. When you do, she will confess everything.

Finally, report back to the Duchess. Her paranoid suspicions were not just paranoia - they were real. She will then ask you to follow her to the Torture Chamber to deal with the traitor.

You will witness Muurine’s execution, and as a reward for your efforts, the Duchess will title you as one of the Court of Dementia and grant you Ruin's Edge Bow.
