Despite what the internet will tell you, the has had a pretty stellar launch. Between the unexpectedly high price and it having so few launch titles, the Switch 2 has been ruthlessly mocked and criticized for weeksꦬ. But in that same time frame, I haven’t been able to put it down for a sec🦩ond.

Hands-On: Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's Free Switch 2 Upgrade Might Be The Most Important Next-Gen Update Of All Time

The Switch 2 update for Pokemon Sca⭕rlet & Violet turns them int🍸o the games they always should have been.

Call me a shill, but I’ve been through a lot of console launches, and this is one of the best there’s ever been. You have to look beyond the ‘no games’ meme to see it, because there’s a lot to appreciate about the Switch 2 beyond exclusives. Between the game upgrades, Gamecube titles, the Switch backlog, hardware upgrades, wide availability, and freaking 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Mario Kart World, there’s more than enough here to hold you over until we get Donkey Kong Bananaza, Metroid Prime 4, Hyrule Warr🎶iors, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A later this year.

Beating The No Games Allegations

Mario Kart World is the Switch 2’s only launch titlꦅe. Evꦚerything else is either a port, a remaster, or an older game with a next-gen upgrade. Though Donkey Kong Bananza launches in July, the lack of new games has been the main source of criticism for the new Switch.

Setting aside that Mario Kart World is not only a great game, but also a game we’ll continue to play throughout the entire lifespan of the Switch 2, it’s a strange criticism to make when thi✱s is essentially how every console launches. I remember picking up PlayStation 4 on launch day along with Knack (terrible), Killzone Shadowfall (unbelievably bad), and… well, that’s it. Just like the Switch 2, everything else was either a port or🐈 a next-gen upgrade. Would you rather have two bad games, or one new Mario Kart?

I’m not cherry-picking here, go back through the history of console launches and you’lꦐl find this has always been the case. The N64 launched with Super Mario 64 and Pilot Wings 64, and nothing else. The Gamecube launched with just Luigi’s Mansion, Super Monkey Ball, and a jetski game I guarantee you don’t know the name of. What was your favorite Xbox Series X/S launch title? Trick question, it didn’t have any. Halo Infinite would have b🅠een if it hadn’t been delayed, but hey, that’s just one game right?

Why has this become the thing everyone mocks the Switch 2 for when every console launch has been lik🍌e this forever? I know the price is a factor, but with the PS5 and Xbox Series X both at a higher pricꦆe point five years after release, it's another thing that feels weird to single the Switch 2 out for.

Making Old Feel New Again

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Now that I’ve demonstrated the Switch 2 launch isn’t any worse than other console launches, let me convince you of why it's better. This is pretty simple: you get the entire Switch back catalog, including a bunch of games with new content and features, on a Switch that can actually run them - and run them incredibly well.

To say the Switch 2 is transformative for Switch games is an understatement. Games like Pokemon Scarlet & Violet that struggled at every turn are suddenly running like tꩲhey always should have on the Switch 2. Even games that weren’t advertised to have Switch 2 upgrades, ꦯ♛like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, run significantly better. You can take this as a condemnation of the Switch’s performance, but I’m glad we have a way to enjoy these games as they were meant to be played.

That’s before you even get into the games that have new features and functionality on the Switch 2. Mouse mode seemed like a gimmick at fi🥂rst, but it opened the door for a lot of games I never would have played on the Switch before. Cyberpunk 2077, Civilization 7, and Fortnite wouldn’t be very exciting launch titles for a PlayStation or Xbox console, but for the Switch 2, they’re practically brand new games.

I’m also impressed by how easy it was to get ahold of the Switch 2. Despite some pre-order anxieties, I ended up walking into a Target an hour after it opened on launch day and there were still a pile of consoles available. That’s unheard of, and especially impressive considering 16ꦿ8澳洲幸运5开奖网:everything goin🔯g on with tariffs right now. I’m enjoying revisiting the Gamecube on the Switch 2 (though I don’t thi𝐆nk it should be locked to the n꧅ew console), but most of all, I’m enjoying playing some of my Switch favorites on a bigger screen with better performance. Other consoles haven’t been as transformative for older games as the Switch 2 was at launch, which is why they need new games to carry the𒁏m. But when you look outside the exclusives, there’s so much love about the Switch 2.
