I’ve had my eye on since it was first teased way back in 2016, which meant that finding out it had finally received a full trailer in the most recent Direct instantly made my life a little more worth living. We haven’t seen a major update o෴n the project since 2019, so I’d assumed it had fallen into development hell, never to escape, but thank Nintendo, we’ve now seen signs of life.
Witchbrook Looks Witchin’ Amazing
The game ticks a lot of boxes for me, and for many other people in my age group who grew up wishing they could go to magic school. Witchbrook is a life sim where you🍎 play a student witch at Witchbrook College, working towards graduation by doing all the things you’d typically do in school.
Surrounding you are an almost unimaginable number of characters all living their own lives and adhering to their own schedules, and the city itself changes with the seasons as well. Witchbrook promises a -like experience where you can bond with characters, customise your character and home, wander its surprisingly large city at will in your free time, and even start a business. And you can play with up to four players in co-op.

I♕t’s Been 84 Years Since Witchbrook Was Announced
Stardew Valley's development was fresh out to pasture when Witchbrook w🌺as first conjured.
Having not heard about the project for so long, I assumed that whatever we got would be fairly compact, if we got anything at all. But Witchbrook’s trailer made my jaw drop with its sheer scope. Every environment was astonishingly detailed and full of characters doing their own thing, whether that be sitting on a bench and reading or flying around on a broomstick. It has libraries, classrooms, and donut stores. And man, look at that water. It’s b♛eautiful.
Games Don’t Focus On School Life, And They Should
So where are all the life sims like Witchbrook? I don’t mean magical, necessarily, but games that simulate student life. It might be a weird thing to fixate on, but I’ve always been interested in how games take on the challenge of balancing going to classes and doing homework with an extraneous storyline that d☂iverges from the mundane routine we’re all alr꧙eady familiar with.
Bully, which I’ve somehow never played, implements classes as minigames that allow the player to unlock new items or abilities. Persona similarly rewards players with stat boosts if they answer questions correctly in class, and allows players to study outside of class to further boost those stats. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Sims 4, which is by far the most faithful to an actual school experience by vi♚rtue of being an albeit wacky simulator, has expansions that allow you to live out your high school and college years.
It’s this last game that has what I want more of, and that likely has most in common with Witchbrook, because they’re the most realistic, assuming you take the magic out of the equation. Instead of school being a side mechanic, I want being in school to be the point, because when you’re actually in school, it’s the thing that your whole lif🎐e circles around. I want to have to attend classes, to do homework, to work a side job in a cafe because I need extra money. I want to be able to chat up my classmates when I bump into them around town. I want to attend mandatory school rallies 🍎and be grumpy about it.
Simulation games abound, but very few of them focus on this mundane part of growing up, despite it arguably being the most formative years of many people’s lives. I can’t wait to go to potions class in Witchbrook, but I wish there🐓 were more options than just this one to relive the good old days.
