has a refreshing take on monetisation that’s rare in the field of live-service games. While most games rely on expensive battle passes, boosters, and cosmetics t♔o make money, developer Arrowhead doesn’t do that – its director went so far as to say that games need to “earn the right to monetise” an🐷d that games shouldn’t be pay-to-win. Everything in the game can be unlocked with requisition slips, medals, samples, and Super Credits, all of which you can earn through playing the game.
These currenc🃏ies are very easy to get in-game, as they’re al✃l scattered around the map for you to find if you explore outside of your main objectives. While you have to extract from a mission with samples for them to be credited to your account, the other three currencies that you find around will be credited to you even if you fail. Requisition slips for unlocking stratagems can also be earned from completing missions, medals for unlocking Warbond items can be earned from completing Major and Personal Orders, and Super Credits can be unlocked in the basic Warbond.
Super Credits are the most easily overlooked, esp🅷ecially if you’re stupid like me. I unlocked a ton of Super Credits in the first Warbond fairly easily early in the game, and because the code I’d received from PlayStation gave me the first Premium Warbond for free, I went on a bit of a spending spree. I bought every cool piece of armour I saw in the Superstore, knowing damn well that none of the things I was buying would have any impact on the way I played the game. After all, Helldivers 2 isn’t pay-to-win, so it was all aesthetic.
And then the second Premium Warbond, Cutting Edge, dropped, and I didn’t have the credits I needed to unlock it. Not even close. Because I’d spent it all on cool-looking stuff, I couldn’t purchase the Warbond that I otherwise would have been able to afford – I probably spent more than that on stuff that I’m not even actively using. And now a third, Democratic Detonation, has just been announced, and I’m going to be two Premiu🐲m Warbonds behind. All because I forgot I should be saving my Super Credits.

We’re all locked in an endless ౠstalemate, looking for symbolic wins while millions die
Again, because of how Helldivers 2 is designed, the weapons in the Warbonds aren’t stronger or better than the ones I have access to. All the weapons, while different from the ones you can get through the basic Warbond, are balanced so they are useful in different situations and against different enemies. An🔯d, thankfully, these Warbonds will never expire, so I can buy them whenever I save up enough credits to do so.
But the pace at which these Warbonds are being released is getting a little painful. You can’t buy Medals to skip through Warbonds, so you have to play quite a lot in order to organically get all the Super Credits you’d need to unlock Premium Warbonds. I just don’t have that kind of time – I mostly log in just to do my Personal Order – which is why I absolutely shouldn’t have been throwing Super Credits away on cosmetics. Don’t ma🐷ke my mistake, Helldivers. Save up your Super Credits, you’ll need them.
Helldivers 2 is the sequel to the third-person shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios. This time out, the Helldivers are deep in the Galactic War, and it's up to you to bring Managed Democracy to the masses.
