Summary

  • The interactive Black Mirror special, Bandersnatch, has been removed from Netflix.
  • This comes as Netflix removes all of its interactive specials, moving away from the technology.
  • It appears that there are very few physical copies of Bandersnatch in the wild, so it's unclear how the special will be preserved.

Remember Bandersnatch? This 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Black Mirror special got a whole lot of attention back when it hit Netflix in 2018. Bandersnatch was billed as a choose-your-own-adventure interactive ♔film, in which the player made decisions for the main character🌟, which impacted his career as a game developer and his life as a whole.

Its ambition saw it scoop up a bunch of awards, including two Emmys. There was even a follow-up episode in the l🐠atest season of Black Mirror, although this is not interactive.

Despite all of this, 🔥no 🐽one can actually play Bandersnatch anymore. Earlier today, Netflix removed it from its library, alongside all of its interactive media. It doesn't even seem to have been replaced with a version of Bandersnatch which tells the story in a linear fashion, so there's now no way to watch it at all on Netflix.

Netflix isn't preserving one of Black Mirror's most ambitious episodes

Bandersnatch was not specifically tꩵargeted for removal. Instead, it seems that it just got caught in the crossfire, as Netflix doesn't want to su🦄pport interactive television anymore. It started to remove its interactive special late last year, leaving only four on the service, including Bandersnatch.

“The technology served its purpose, but is now limiting as we focus on technological efforts in other areas,” a Netflix spokesperson told back in November 2024. It came after Netflix revealed that it was focusing on its 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:other gaming efforts, scrapping its interactive projects entirely.

All in all, it's yet another example of how precarious the future of 🍒media is in the hands of streamers. Shows and films can be removed at a whim, with piracy then becoming the only way to view them legitimately. In Bandersnatch's case, the only physical release I could find online was a version given to Emmy voters for award show consideration, so it seems that this will be hard to track down.
