What Is Critters?
In My Time at Sandrock, after introducing yourself to a few of the townsfolk, you'll begin to see the option in the dialogue choice bubbles above their head that features a pair of animals. This is the icon for Critters, a simple card game you can play against the townsfolk to boost y🐬our relationship by a few more points each day.
When playing Critters, you earn relationship points with that person for each round you play. The more you win, the more points you get.
Asking someone to play brings you into a new screen with four cards in hand. You'll always start off with one of each of the four animals available in Critters. At the bottom right corner of your screen, you'll also see the circular graphic that displays which cards beat what.

Before your first card, your opponent may try to psyche you out by suggesting they'll play a certain card. This doesn't always mean they will play it, though, so choose wisely.
Each game of Critters sees you both playing four cards total, but you'll get one new card for each card you play, so you'll always have four choices in hand. The same, however, goes for your opponents, making the process of elimination all but impossible.
There will be a star marker on the card that won, to keep track of your wins and losses each round. At the end of the four cards, you'll
- You get a win when you've got the majority of the stars.
- You lose when the opponent has the majority.
- You'll have a perfect win if you beat your opponent on all four cards.
- You can have a major win if you have three or more stars.
- You'll face a major loss when the same happens to your opponent.
- There's a draw if you finish with the same number of stars.
You can play three rounds of Critter each day per person, and doing so ✤is a great way to continuously work on building your relationships𝓡 with the people in Sandrock.
The Townsfolk Have Their Own Tactics For Winning
The more you play Critters with the townsfolk in My Time at Sandrock, the more you'll notice specific patterns in how they play. These aren't always consistent, but it always helps to know your opponent.
For example, some will play the card you just played, while others will play what's strong against what you've just played. Some try to use each animal at least once, while others seem to focus on using a specific animal as much as possible.
The best way to work these out is to challenge your favorite residents every day and pay attention to their style.
