We’re getting to a point of post-modernism in gaming where everything is becoming impossible to describe genre soup, so forgive me for leading with a reductive ‘this game meets that game’ line, but it’s easier than saying, “Mistfall Hunter is a third-person action RPG dungeon crawling extraction shooter PvPvE game with battle royale and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Soulslike elements.” Well dang, I guess I just said it any🌞way.

Dark And Darker Is In Trouble Again, As It's Removed From Another Platform

Dark and Darker developer Ironmace and Nexon are at it aga🀅in.

I liked my time with Mistfall: Hunters at Summer Game Fest earlier this month. As a fan of its progenitors, I found it easy to pick up and play without much guidance. Thanks to its melting pot approach to genre, I suspect most people will be familiar with some aspects, if not all of them. It’s hard to call it original, but then again, what is these days? Mistfall balances its blend well, and may even fill in the gap between loot-driven dungeon crawlers and more action-focused games like Remnant and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Elden Ring: Nightreign.

Welcome To The Dungeon, We Got Blood And Flames

Mistfall Hunter Dungeon Entrance.

Following a Ragnarok-style event, the gods have all been killed in a civil war, and their blood now curses the world in the form of a plague called the Gyldenmist. Fortunately, a world full of monsters is a world full of opportunity for a Gylden Hunter such as yourself. You and up to two teammates are tasked with venturing ou🉐t, killing some baddies⛎, and scooping up as much gear and Gyldenblood as you can before hopping out of the next portal home. Beware, however, as rival hunters would love nothing more than to kill you and take your hard-earned trophies for themselves.

If you’re a Dark and Darker player, first of all, I’m sorry for what you’ve been through, but secondly, you’ll be right at home in Mistfall Hunter’s world. 𓂃Aside from the shift to third person, the structure of both games is practically identical. Even the dungeon, made of multiple interconnected floors and filled with traps, locked doors, and circ🥀ular paths, is just like Dark and Darker’s map.

The loop, an evolution of the classic extraction shooter, is simple: explore the dungeon, kill monsters, loot as much as you can, then escape before you get killed. Avoiding strong monsters and other players is easy at first, but as the circle closes in and the available space gets smaller, you’re slowly pushed together into an inevitable s🥀howdown.

The extraction mechanic is interesting. Somewhere near the midpoint of the match, little monsters shaped like bells will spawn in a few places around the dungeon🍒. You can track them down by their signature sound, and then if you kill them, you’ll be able to loot them for a bell. Once you have the bell, you can ring it at any time to open a portal. It takes a while to open, during which time other players will be attracted to the sound of the ringing bell, but if you can survive long enough, all you have to do is hop into the portal to escape.

There’s upgradeable gear with random affixes, and a light class building system that lets you choose ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚbetween a few different abilities and equip two different weapons. It’s everything you expect from a game like this, which doesn’t make it particularly exciting, bu✃t it does mean you can count on having a familiar experience.

Precision Aiming, A New Dimension To Action Gameplay?

Mistfall Hunter Hero Fighting A Giant Monster With A Sword And Shield.

Developer Bellring Games touts its new ‘precision aiming’ combat system as a big selling point for the game. The idea is that you can have more contr⛄ol over your melee weapons and can use attacks and combos to target enemy weak points and syn𝔉ergize your attacks with your teammates. I can’t speak much to that claim, partly because I played solo, and partly because one of the classes is called Blackarrow, and if there’s an archer in your game, that’s what I’m picking first.

The other four classes are Mercenarওy, Sorcerer, Shadowstrix, and Seer.

What I can say about the combat is that it’s very Remnant-like. Enemy hits are brutal on your health bar, even from small guys, and you only have so many f🌄lasks on hand, so dodge rolling away to maintain space is key. If you’re using a ranged class like Sorcerer or Blackarrow, it often feels like you’re just playing a fantasy version of Remnant 2. Melee does seem to have some pretty fluid and flashy combos, so I’m looking forward to digging into th༒ose classes at launch.

Dark & Darker is a fan♑tastic concept with abysmal execution, and I have a feeling that a more polished game has a good chance at finding success with that formula. Progression doesn’t seem particularly deep at first, which will be crucial to the long-term health of the game, but at the start, it seems like Mistfall Hunter has a lot to offer. At the very least, it has a lot of genres to offer.
