How To Get Bees

The best way to get bees is to find a bee nest. These yellow blocks can be found on birch or oak trees within the following biomes.

If you are looking for bees as quickly as possible, we suggest checking out Meadows, which are quite common. Naturally spawning bee nests will have three bees in them, but the bees will typically roam up to 22 blocks away from the nest. Additionally, bees will return to their nest once it is nighttime (or if it's raining).

Bee nests also🌠 have a five percent chance to appear on a newly grown sapling that is within two blocks of a flower. If you truly can't find any bee n🌱ests, consider making a tree farm with flowers between each one. By using bonemeal to grow the saplings into trees, you may find a bee nest.

How To Harvest A Natural Bee Nest

There are a few ways to transport bees back home. First and foremost, you can take the entire bee nest with you. When bees are inside, you can harvest a nest with a tool that has been enchanted with silk touch. This will preserve the nest and tr🦩ansport the bees.

If you break a hive without silk touch, it will be destroyed forever!

The bees will remain inside the nest until you place it down. From here, they will pop out and start pollinating nearby flowers.

Bees On Leads

How To Make A Bee Farm

Now that you have your bees, let's go over how to make a bee farm in order to gather honey and honeycomb. First, it's important to understand the mechanics of this. You will want an enclosed farm that encompasses bees, their homes, and flowers; this will preven🔯t the bees from flying away and getting lost.

Bees will attack if you gather anything from their hives/nests, but with smoke from campfires, you can pacify them. This is a key feature to manual bee farms, but if you do this automatically with redstone, you won't have to worry about pacifying the bees (since a ൩dispenser will do the gathering).

With all that in mind, let's get to making the farm. First, place your bee hives/nests one block off the ground in a line. You can use as many as you want; there are no size restraints for this farm. One block in front of the bee nests, place a row of flowers. The type here does not matter.

From here, you'll want to frame in the hives and flowers. We've done this with wood and glass, but you can use any material you want. Glass is a good front option, as you will be able to see the bees mill about and pollinate flowers.

With the front closed in, head to the back. Facing the nests, place a chest directly to the left of them on the ground. Now, while crouching, attach a hopper to the side of the chest and subsequent hoppers connected together under each bee nest.

After the hoppers have been placed, it's time to place observers and dispensers. Standing atop the hives/nests, place an observer facing downwards on each one. The red dot should be angled towards the sky.

Once you've done this, place dispensers directly behind each hive. The 'face' of the dispenser should be against each hive; this may take a bit of careful placement and some temporary blocks. When the dispensers are in place, add redstone dust to the top of each, and then add a torch on the side opposite of the chest (this can sit on a normal block).

The basic structure is now done! From here, you will need to fill the dispensers. If you put shears inside, then the result will be honeycomb. If, on the other hand, you place an empty bottle inside, the result will be a bottle of honey.

Shears can be used over and over again until they break, but bottles can only hold one portion of honey. As such, you will need to check on the bottles every once in a while to empty them or change them out.

You can break open the front of this farm in order to place bees. All you need is two to start, and then you can breed them by giving each one a flower.
