"Grieving Ghost of the Goblet" pits players in against Fatolich in the Tomb of Lament. It's all very dramatically titled, and in truth, the Tomb of Lament can be as daunting as it sounds like. But Fatolich itself is fairly easy to overcome - if you know what you're doing ahead of time.

Is this the real𒁏 life? Is this just fantasy? Metaphor: ReFantazio takes the best of Atlus to ♏create something new in a high fantasy setting.

Follow our guide so that you can get started on this quest, as well as the related quest, "The Chalice vs. The Brew". With both of them in tow, head to the dungeon, which we've got a walkthrough on, ꦏand then do unto Fatolich what Fatolich would have done unto you.

How To Begin "Grieving Ghost Of The Goblet"

Obtaining the Metaphor: ReFantazio quest, Grieving Ghost of the Goblet.

In most cases, picking up a bounty quest is as simple as visiting a city's local Recruitment Centre. And, indeed, the same holds true for "Grieving Ghost of the Goblet", which tasks you with slaying Fatolich. There's a bit of a twist, however.

Namely, there's another side quest closely associated with this one, so you certainly don't want to miss it. The side quest is entitled "The Chalice vs. The Brew", and you'll find the petitioner, designed Brewer, at Port Brilehaven: Arenafront Wharf.

In our experience, both these quests became available at the same time, on or around 7/23.

Quest PrepThe world map screen in Metaphor: ReFantazio shows the Tomb of Lament dungeon.

The informant at The Greatest Catch, the tavern in Brilehaven, sells a note informing you that Fatolich summons a Chimenza, and grows more powerful when it does. You can buy th⛄e tip if you're a completionist, but y💧ou won't need it if you're reading our guide!

Pick up around ten or so Tinned Torpors from the Black Cat's Claw, the item shop in Brilehaven. These will be helpful for lowering your foes' Attack stat; the Guptauros enemies prowling the Tomb of Lament hit hard.

Some Great Fairy Dusts and Expensive Medicines will also help. The Lifesaving Medicine costs a pretty penny at 1,000 reeve per bottle, so we'd recommend refraining from grabbing those, by c🧔ontrast. Maybe later in the game, when 1,000 reeve is easier to come by...

Tomb Of Lament

Exiting an alcove in the Tomb of Lament in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

The Tomb of Lament is the name of the dungeon where you'll find Fatolich. Iꦰt's filled with tough foes, and to ensure you find every treasure and know what's i💙n store for you with each enemy.

Since Fatolich carries the Chalice of Legends, which the bounty quest has you show to the Recruitment Officer as proof of the deed, and your other quest tells you to bring to the brewer, we've got a two-liches-with-one-ston𓆉e situation on our hands here.

The party in the Archetype menu in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

As always, Metaphor: ReFantazio's quite forgiving toward those of us who love to theorycra🐭ft, devising strategies galore🅷.

The following is far from the only workable party setup, but it's built around destroying Fatolich before it can do much of anything, so we think you'll find it to your liking.

Formation

Strategy

Protagonist

Magic Seeker

Front

Inherit the Hamaon skill, inherited from the Cleric Archetype, and use it liberally. If needed, serve as the team's healer; but our strategy involves a rapid approach to defeating Fatolich, so don't get carried away healing.

Strohl

Brawler/Pugilist

Front

Begin the battle with Perfect Punch, inherited via the Brawler Archetype. Crushing Fist, if you've unlocked the Pugilist, works even better. Use it when he's at full HP, or any other Strike damage attack that suits you, when he isn't.

Hulkenberg

Brawler/Pugilist

Front

Everything we said for Strohl.

Heismay

Everything we said for Strohl.

Battle Strategy

The party stands before Fatolich in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

As mentioned earlier, the strategy we used to defeat Fatolich involves getting rid of it long before it poses a threat. Provided you're around level 30 or so, the following tactics should work like a charm.

We do this by tearing through its HP in the first turn, shrugging our shoulders when the Chimenza heals Fatolich on the first turn, and then tearing through its HP a second time.

In the first round, have Strohl and Hulkenberg use either Perfect Punch, or, if you have it, Crushing Fist, dealing heaps of damage to Fatolich. Heismay should, with his superior Agility, try to steal the Fulmine Rod. The protagonist should use Hamaon or heal if necessary.

The reason the protagonist isn't simply another Brawler/Pugilist is so that he can top off everyone's HP when needed, so as to ensure that the other party memb༒ers' HP-based attacks go off without a rཧeduction in damage.

By the time Fatolich gets its first turn, it'll use Soul Cry, Summon the Chimenza, and then the Chimenza will heal Fatolich to nearly full HP. Whatever - we'll rinse and repeat our prior actions, except this time, Heismay will join in on the punching.

After the second round, Fatolich should be fairly low on health. It will waste its turn using Hyper to concentrate for the coming of a super-powerful attack on the third round. Unfortunately for Fatolich, one more round of our strategy will kill it.

At this point, only Chimenza remains. It might fire off a couple of Kandera spells, medium, single-target, Electric damage. Wipe it out and that's a wrap.

Rewards For Defeating Fatolich

Completing the Grieving Ghost of the Goblet quest in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Whenever you're done traveling along the world map to complete other quests, just return to Brilehaven and turn in the Chalice of Legends that you acquired by defeating Fatolich. Head to the Recruitment Centre first.

If you see the Brewer before turning in the bounty, Gallica will simply realize that the prꦏotagonist still needs to show the Chalice of Legends to the soldier first.

For your efforts, 52,500 reeve and the customary, bounty-related, increase in Courage will be obtained. (The bounty is 35,000 reeve without Catherina's follower boon, but from what we can tell, youꦐ'll probably have it by this point.💜)

When you're done with that, return to the Brewer at Arenafront Wharf. Your reward from him is 7,500 reeve and a Miraculous Mead, which fully restores the party's HP when used.
