After you build a few buildings, you will unlock the ability to perform upgrades. These are simple changes to the exterior of a house that can change the house's appearance, as well as boost the happiness of the villagers living inside.

Unlocking Handyman Skill
Before you start upgrading your house, you will need to unlock the Handyman skill. This can be found in the Prod🌺uction tab within the Skills menu. Her🔥e, you will see several different skills that you can upgrade.
To earn points that can be invested into skills, you just need to do the associated activity. For production skills, you need to do tasks such as crafting and building. 💞Once you🔜 have enough points, you can invest in the Handyman skill and gain the ability to upgrade your house.
How To Upgrade
To upgrade a house, equip your hammer. Once you are holding your hammer, right-clꦑick to open a menu that will display the following options.
- Upgrade
- Downgrade
- Building
- Destroy
- Repair
Choose the upgrade option, which can be found at the very top of the wheel. With this option selected, any building that can be upgraded will appear in a teal color; approaching the walls of the building will disp﷽lay the materi𓃲als that are needed to perform the upgrade.
Upgrading works similarly to building the house. Rather than upgrading the entire house, you will be upgrading one wall at a time. Hovering over the wall will show the materials needed; if you have enough material in your inventory, all you need to do is left-click as the materials go towards the upgrade. Once you have upgraded with the correct amount of resources, the appearance of the wall will change.
There are two types of upgrades available so let's go over both, as well as the materials that you will need.
Types Of Upgrades
When you build your house, you can either create stone walls or wattle walls. Stone walls will be primarily made out of stone, while wattle walls ar🔥e made from sticks. Each of these wall types will have a different upgradꦍe option.
Stone Upgrade
To upgrade a wall made from stone, you will need limestone. Limestone is a co🎉mmon material that you can collect while mining from rock✱s. When you are walking around, you can find small stones on the ground, but you will not be able to gather limestone this way.
With a pickaxe, you can mine directly from rocks to get large amounts of stone and limestone. Fortunately, mineable rocks can be found pretty much everywhere. If you are struggling to find rocks, there are a lot scattered in Gostovia, which is the starting village of the game. You can also find rocks deep in the forest and along the riverಌbed.
Overall, it shouldn't be too difficult to mine limestone. Keep in mind that mining will require a pickaxe. If you choose to use the stone pickaxe, you will lose durability very quickly and the tool will break. It's best to craft several pickaxes if you plan to gather a lot of limestone.
Wattle Upgrade
Upgrading a wattle wall requires daub. Unlike limestone, you cannot find daub in the valley. Instead, you will need to ꩵcraft this material wꦿith the following items.
- 10 Clay
- 10 Straw
Daub can be crafted from the workstation inside of a barn. The scheme for daub will need to be purchased for 50 coins once you have ten farming technology points. If you do not have a barn yet, it's okay! Daub can also be purchased from several vendors around the valley.
Straw can be found along any body of water in the form of reeds, and clay can be dug with a shovel from clay deposits. If you follow Uniegost's story, you will come to a quest from Sambor, where he gives you a shovel and asks you to find a clay deposit. There is a deposit directly behind his house, as well as several other deposits spread throughout the valley. The clay deposit will have a reddish-brown color, similar to clay in real life.
Benefits Of Upgrading A House
When you upgrade a building, you will change its appearance, which is a benefit to doing an upgrade. Rather than having sticks and stones as walls, your houses will have a more 'modern' feel.
Upgrading a building is also beneficial to the villagers who live inside. In the image above, you can see the insulation of a house; this is essentially how protected the house is from outside elements.
