Grab some coffee - ideally without any train-ride tampering - and don't mind the pink blood everywhere. Here's Rain Code's last hurrah, 'And Then I Was Gone'.

And Then I Was Gone,

Yuma and Wendy slowly getting back up in the rural area in Chapter 5 of Rain Code

We begin our final journey in a dilapidated shack. There's a single interactive object for quick DP in the next room. You'll find Kurumi soon thereafter. Fun little zombie scene, followed by an escape sequence. If you run ahead toward the zombies, Shinigami will tell you to find an alternate route. Just hang a right through the side path nearby.

Follow this path down toward the street, then turn left and Yuma will notice a building. Head in. Follow Shinigami's route suggestion when Yuma and Kurumi have departed, but be ready to press 'B' in a QTE when Yuma approaches the priest. When the escape continues, be ready to press left on the analog stick. There's a fairly rapid 'X' button press soon thereafter.

After the group's tumble, keep going. There's a Silver Memory Shard ahead, near the numerous interactive objects on Yuma's path forward. Inside the meat bun factory, when Yuma needs to decide how to handle the zombies up ahead, choose 'Use sound'. Hurry ahead and pick up the tablet device.

Grab the next tablet device to lure more zombies. Past the Fake Zilch scene, there's a third tablet device down the opposite stairs of the latest zombie group. You'll get some quick DP by examining the electric light past the tunnel.

Revelations abound as we watch Yuma chat with all sorts of... interesting locals, but much of the chapter at this point consists of running through corri♌dors, occasionally warped back to p🌳rior areas.

Yuma and Shinigami cross a Japanese style red bridge on the outskirts of Kanai Ward in Rain Code

Cross the red bridge when you arrive at this area, keeping an eye out for the Gold Memory Shard on the left path thereafter. Go to the Mind-Cleansing Bath door. From here, the story gets even wilder; after the plethora of scenes, it's time for the last Mystery Labyrinth.

Mystery Labyrinth, Part One

Shinigami and Yuma going down the rabbit hole into the last Mystery Labyrinth in Rain Code

We suppose it's entirely possible this is the first time you've read one of our guides on Rain Code's Mystery Labyrinths, so we'll repeat what we've said in the past! We like to keep these simple and clean, so to speak, with the answers to each portion of the dungeon spelled out plainly. Few frills, just thrills. That way, you can enjoy the Labyrinth in full, but tilt your detective's gaze this way whenever you're stuck!

Shinigami and Yuma stand atop a ruined roof in Kanai Ward in Rain Code

Duel With Makoto

  • As Shinigami's tutorial notes, we need to hold off on striking until a statement bears further scrutiny.
  • "When did Makoto arrive at Kanai Ward?" Three years ago
  • "What was happening in Kanai Ward when Makoto arrived?" Wait through the first answer, then choose 'Blank Week Mystery'.
  • "What did Makoto do to protect Kanai Ward?" Isolation.
  • "What did Makoto do as the CEO?" Wait through the first answer, then choose 'Ended homunculus research'.

  • "Who used Coalescence?" Makoto
  • "Yuma's identity is..." Number One
  • "Who gave up their identity as Yuma Kokohead?" Ramen Stand Owner

Final Duel With Makoto

Don't panic if things seem... obtuse. We'll get you through!

  • Hang tight until the three Makotos scene, at which point, slash the one without the strange glimmering over the mask.
  • Repel 'These pitiful homuncului didn't ask to be made, and neither did I.'
  • QTE time. Press left on the stick, wait for the next prompt, press up, then press 'X'.
  • These moments in which two blue phrases stick around are a little boggling - we don't press anything, and they eventually strike Makoto. We also tried repelling, and they gave us animations of Makoto being hit.
  • More QTEs. Here's what you'll be pressing, quickly: 'A', then 'Y', then 'B'
  • Another repel-fixated scene, and then...
  • Press 'Y' three times. When Makoto's swords all become one, and he swings forward, be ready to mash 'Y', then 'A', then 'B', then 'A' again.
  • The 'X' button will cover half the screen - just press 'X'.

What Does The Final Choice In Rain Code Change?

Yuma and Shinigami stand at the peak of the last Mystery Labyrinth as the player makes the final choice in Rain Code

So, the answer's simple - nothing actually changes. That's because Yuma has an enhanced version in his mind that requires neither absolute choice be made, though it doesn't really enter his (Koko)head for good until after you, the player, have chosen.

While some might see this as a copout, Master Detective Archives: Rain Code's always been more of a solve-it game than a choose-it game, if you know what we mean. There's a canon ending, too, which is great if Master Detective Archives takes off and further adventures are created for this rad new world.

We hope you've enjoyed your time with Rain Code, and we sure do hope we've helped... Master!
