The further we get into Master Detective Archives: Rain Code, the more the game's main story takes center focus. And yet, even within these majorly plot-relevant stretches, the individual cases Yuma Kokohead must solve feel appropriately episodic for a game with several chapters of good old-fashioned detective work.
This coming-together of overarching plot and singular missions comes to a head in The Imperfect Insider. The hunt for a secret Amaterasu lab soon turns into so much more, and we've jotted down everything of gameplay note along the way.
An Imperfect Insider, Part One: The Lab
Follow along with the slew of initial scenes until Yuma is tasked with 'doing the legwork', asking around about the secret lab. The NPCs you need to speak with are marked in yellow on the mini-map, as is Rain Code's custom. Hoof it to Kanai Tower, taking note of available requests along the way. Now's the best time to tackle them this chapter.
You can still undertake these after Yuma and Kurumi's meeting with Makoto, mind you, but the time limit's almost up thereafter. When Yuma departs from the sub, and makes his way near the yellow car, that's the cutoff.
You'll soon be led around the secret lab by Makoto. With the map, it's hardly a maze, but a bit later, and you'll be responsible for getting out on your own. Head to the Robot Lab, and check around in here for some extra limited-time DP. Now, it's time for Ama-Pal! Controlling it - him? - is easy, but you'll get stuck in the second room and need to select Fubuki's Forte.
- The first panel is a freebie. Just step on the only one you can.
- There are three several choices now. Send Ama-Pal to the panel to your left.
- Technically, all you can do here is go forward to the next panel.
- You can either go forward to the top-left corner panel now or turn right on to the middle panel. That's the right way.
- Choices now include either turning left toward the top-middle panel or maintaining course toward the second one on the right row. Do that.
- All you can do now is make for the top-right panel.
- Finally, while it may be tempting to send Ama-Pal to the panel to your left (top-middle), the solution is to drive forward and off the panel entirely.
For the next bit, use the arm extension button to push the switch for the door to open. Use the red button command on the list of actions 🥂to press the button in the lab room. (We got stuck on this for a sec!)
An Imperfect Insider, Part Two: The Tragedy
Some intense scenes follow. When you regain control of Yuma, first speak with everyone in the room, then when you're controlling him a second time, talk to Fubuki. If that doesn't work, check the surveillance monitor on the far side of the room (behind the desks with computers); we doubt it's necessary, but we did look at it beforehand!
Now for what may be the trippiest part of the game. We need to get around these ghosts. Basically, you must zigzag around them; they move in pairs in this hallway, so stop when you have to, and continue as you can. If you fail, you'll be sent back to the start of the mini-game - could be worse!
Continue waiting for gaps to appear between the ghosts. This is a pretty unforgiving course, but don't lose faith. It's doable. Head through the door at the objective marker when you arrive. Shinigami is quite helpful here - follow her as she points out interactive parts to♔ zip through this investiga💙tion surprisingly swiftly.
That is... until a certain someone gets in the way. Watch the scenes, and when you're ready, check every mark on the map. Next up, after yet another revelatory scene, we're sending Yuma in physical form back to the lab. This isn't nearly as hard as the ghost bit; just look ahead for the guards. Shinigami even warns you if you're going the wrong way - what a nice Death God.
Mystery Labyrinth, Part One
Once again, we'll do this the easy way, so you don't have to deal with all our observations! Just stick with our precise walkthrough for each of Rain Code's fourth-chapter Mystery Labyrinth obstacles, and you'll be through in no time. (Or, more accurately, a little over an hour.)
