Last week, NetEase announced that will now allow you to add colour customiꦓsation options for skins purchased in the game, which was very exciting for players who’ve been craving to add some extra💜 pizzazz to their favourite characters.
New Function, New Currency
That excitement was quickly stifled, though, when it was revealed that not only are these options limited to specific colour schemes for select skins, as opposed to being able to recolour skins at will, but that 168澳洲🐻幸运5开奖网:you have to pay ext♒ra for the privilege.
Right now, t♏here are alternate colours for just four skins: Psylocke’s Vengeance, Luna Snow’s Mirae 2099, Winter Soldier’s Blood Soldier, and Magik’s Punchild.
To be more specific, you have to spend yet another new currency for these alte🍒rnate colours called Unstable Molecules. It costs 600 Unstable Molecules to unlock a new colour scheme for each of those four skins, and you can only get this new currency by🌃 converting Lattice, another of the game’s currencies. There’s no way to earn this currency in-game yet, and it’s unclear if there ever will be.
This Shouldn’t Even Cost Money
There isn’t really much of a point in getting into why this is the case. It’s very obvious: NetEase wants to make more money. Skins are how it makes money out of Marvel Rivals, and adding extra colour customisation behind an additional paywall allꩵows it to squeeze players for even more cash than before. That’s capitalism, baby.
What’s more interesting is how NetEase has gone about this. One big problem players have wit🍎h this decision is that , all of which are earned in different ways and have different purposes.
Particularly 🉐frustrating is that Lattice converts to Unstable Molecules at a one to one ratio, meaning that it’s very easy to figure out how much this new colour customisation option costs: about $6. If the currency serves no other purpose, we can only assume it exists to obfuscate the true cost of the new custo♓misation option. Otherwise, why not just use Lattice?
But I also object to the entire premise of having to pay this much for alternate colour schemes for skins you’ve already paid for – $6 when you’ve already spent tw🥂ice or thrice that on the skin is insulting to players. I don’t think you should have to pay for colour schemes at all. I’ve always thought that the entire idea of paying for cosmetics is a bit silly, but if you’re going to do it, you should expect the company 𒈔you’re giving your money to not upcharge you for every little change you might want to make to that product.
And it doesn’t have to be this way. has free recolours for several skins, and other games have the same functionality but cheaper. Sure, is still mo❀re expensive, but… come on. If we’re going to be mad at Blizzard for ripping players off on vanity cosmetics, we should be just as mad at NetEase for doing the same thing, even if it’🥂s not quite as costly.
NetEase is not just trying to pick players’ pockets, it’s trying to hide it with the addition of a pointless new microcurrency, and it’s unlikely to go bac🅘k on this decision because it’ll affect profit margins. This likely won’t be enough to turn players away from it, considering the fanbase it’s managed to build over the last few months, but man, it stinks.
