As you’ve probably heard from glancing at social media and seeing countless clips of people doing sick tricks or eating dirt thanks to a blue shell, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Mario Kart World is pretty damn good. It’s also one of the only major launch titles for 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Nintendo Switch 2 that pushes the hardware to exciting new places visually, while also iterating upon the tried-andꦬ-true kart racing fo🅘rmula with so many cool new additions.
You can now grind on rails, drive on walls, and co🙈mbine all of these killer new abilities across a sprawling open world. Free Roam can be activated with the press of a button from the main menu, thrusting you into a landscape that encompasses every track in the game and more. Better yet, it’s filled with trials to complete and collectibles to discover.
Mario Kart World’s Free Roam Could Be The Start Of Something Special
Unfortunately, despite how gorgeous the open world is and how much fun it is to seek out its many secrets, when you put those aside, there really isn’t that much to do. There are greater and more natural ways to uncover new costumes for each character, but the stamps you’ll accrue by beating challenges don’t have a tangible enough impact to feel worthwhile. There is potential for free roam thougᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚh, and it feels like World is only just scratching the surface.
I also love that free roam is the lobby for online multiplayer, allowing you and lots of other players to take pictu♎res together or take turns driving into oncoming t🥀raffic.
Right now, there isn’t a lot of character or activity taking place across free roam, aside from a handful of NPCs in more populated areas and the occasional driver passing through. It’s all Toads, Yoshis, and Shy Guys going about their business with little to no i﷽nteraction with you. But w🍸hat if things were different? What if Mario Kart World’s free roam was more than just a vast space filled with incredible sights but no substance to support them? We’d be looking at a very different and arguably much stronger game.
In Fact, It Could Be The Bedrock To Mario Kart’s First Ever Campaign
For all the grief we’ve given Lego 2K Drive oಌver the years - if you even remember it existed in the first place - I admired how it approached story-based progression in a kart racer. The campaign took place across a variety of themed biomes with their own characters, courses, and challenges to conquer that gave you a reason to speak with new faces and soak in the atmosphere🥂 of each new locale. You felt like you were making progress and becoming one of the best racers in the land, building a kart racing legacy brick by brick.
Mario Kart World is begging for this kind of approach, and the most tragic thing about it is how well it would have worked. Imagine if free roam had towns populated with characters you know and love - and can even unlock - who, after striking up a conversation, will offer a race for you to compete in or a challenge to try. This could even lead to tournaments that possess narrative stakes or making rivals with new and old faces alike. It could be like the Subspace Emissary campaign from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Super Smash Bros Brawl in kart racing form.
A ca༒mpaign would also be an ideal way to intro🌳duce other Nintendo characters into the fold, especially if Mario Kart World goes the way of its predecessor and adds other IP.
I’m unsure whether a fully-fledged campaign like this in Mario Kart World would have to wait for a sequel, or if Nintendo has the capability of perhaps even producing an expansion which is designed to build on the capabilities of free roam with conversable NPCs and races made part of the open world rather than being an awkward extension of it. Driving from course to course as part of a Grand Prix is great fun, but I’d love for that act to have narrati🐎ve context or a reason to care beyond unlocking characters and playing with your friends online.
On the very slim chance that someone at Nintendo is reading this, please add a legitimate single-player campaign to Mario Kart World. It feels like the foundations are already there in free roam for it to become a reality, which makes its vast emptiness that much harder to feel good about. Gi𝔉ve me interesting missions to tackle, characters to meet, and a narrative to hold them all together. It’ll work. Trust me.
