Although the game was delayed, we officially saw its launch in April 2024. Now, you can head into the medieval world, build a village, and conquer neighboring regions.

Manor Lords is still currently in early access. As such, it was hard to fully review the game, since much of the content isn't available just yet. Still, Senior Specialist W🍸riter Harry Alston reviewed the game without giving it an official score. The bottom line? Harry says that "you ﷽should still buy it", regardless of the unfinished state.

Sure, there is placeholder text and elements that you can't use just yet. This is to be expected for an early access game made by one person. As Harry states, "Not only will you be getting your hands on a beautiful medieval city-builder, complete with robust real-time battles, you’ll also be supporting a developer, and more recently, a publisher, which have shown complete transparency ahead of their launch—about player expectations, about price point, and about the future of the game".

🐠In addition to the developer and publisher remaining transparent and informative, t🍰he game itself is worthy of being wishlisted by over three million people. From managing individual resources to forming and directing your militia, every aspect of the game has depth.

Rather than half-baked elements scattered throughout the game, you can find a few core elemenᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚtsꦦ that had a lot of thought put into them.

Harry goes so far as to compare Manor Lords to Cities: Skylines 2, which seemingly fumbled the bag upon launch. In that city-building game, zoning new buildings was tedious and often buggy, but in Manor Lords, it's satisfying to designate a burgage plot; "watching your citizens drag the logs over, build the foundations, and set up the support beams, is completely immersive".

Time Expenditure

As a strategy game, there is no real 'end' to Manor Lords. You can continue expanding and managing your city, or just start over if you want to shake things up. An actual game of Manor Lords can extend well past ten hours, especially if you are aiming to get the victory screen.

Overall, you can expect to play a single game in around ten hours, but at any point, you can simply start over with a new save. Additionally, as new content is eventually added, you will have even more to play through, increa♍sing your total time.

Manor Lords is only available on PC.

Worth It For City-Building Fans - Jacqueline Zalace

I've been a long-time fan of city-building games, and Manor Lords scratches my city-building itch. There are portions of the game that aren't quite complete, but this doesn't drag down on the game. Instead of wishing the content was there, I find myself marveling at the existing content.

Manor Lords feels realistic and true to the medieval period. Similar to what Harry stated in his review, I also pored over real medieval layouts to perfect my villages. While micromanaging your village is thrilling and immersive, sometimes, it's also quite satisfying to just sit back and watch your villagers go about their daily lives.

A Promising City-building Experience - Mohamed Flifal

Manor Lords seems promising, even though it's still in early access. If you enjoy city-building games, especially ones set in the medieval era, it's worth giving a shot! But if you're expecting a truly exceptional RTS experience, it might not be there yet. Hopefully, it will improve over time on that front.

When I started following Manor Lords back during the closed alpha, I was hooked on the concept from the get go. The environments and buildings are beautifully and faithfully crafted, and it does such a great job of pulling you in further to the time period you're playing in.

Even though all the planned features of the game aren't implemented yet, the road map for the future is there, and it'll be super exciting to see it come together. Now excuse me, I need to return to my sheep farm of 500+ sheep and breaking the medieval economy.
