How To Start Farming
To farm any crop, you will first need to place down a field. This can be found in the Farming tab of the construction menu, allowing you to place all four corners of the field.
Remember, to farm, you need to build the Farmhouse building. Workers can be assigned from here.
When you first click on the option to place down a field, you will see a fertility overlay. On the right side of the screen, the 'Emmer Fertility' option will be selected. Emmer is another word for wheat, so ꧙this is essentially⛄ the fertility of the land related to wheat growing.
Areas that are more green have a higher fertility, making them ideal for farmland. If you plan on growing other crops besides wheat, you can chec🥀k out the fಞertility overlay options.
Overall, try placing your fields depending on the fertility.
How To Increase Soil Fertility
There are a few ways to increase fertility, which can be🌠 found below.
Fallow Your Fields
By fallowing a field, you can increase its fertility. From the crop drop-down menu, you can choose 'Fallow' which essentially means nothing will grow there. By making the field hav💟e a crop rotation, you can add a fallow period in. Once the season is over, the next crop in the rotation will grow.
Try to fallow your fields at least one time for each rotation (which is three years).
Fertilize Your Fields
Fertilization is a development point that you can unlock (found in the top branch above 'Heavy Plow'), which allows you to use fallowed fields as pastures. When this happens, the field will quickly regain fertility. Once the field has increased in fertili🥃ty, you can select a crop to gro🐎w.
Add Variety To Your Crops
Growing the same crop for two seasons can decrease the fertility of a field quickly, so we suggest growing multiple crops within a rotation. This won't increase fertility, but it will help you avoid any unnecessary fertility loss.
